About us
For over 15 years, Welfare Call has determined that monitoring vulnerable children on a daily basis, not only proves to be the most effective way to ensure that they are safeguarded, but that these children can receive the best education possible. Our extensive range of attendance reports and daily communication with education provisions enables the Virtual School to intervene promptly to individual cases, and develop strategic responses to trends when looked after children are absent from school. This ultimately helps the virtual school prevent breaks in learning and disengagement of young people. Welfare Call has established a unique understanding in how to help and alert local authorities of potential problematic circumstances through our reporting procedures and trained staff members. It is our continued mission to improve our service to both prospective and existing Local Authorities that we work with, so that we can extend our areas of expertise to other vulnerable groups. We pride ourselves on providing a service which offers one to one communication to both authorities and schools which allows for: certain registration marks to be challenged (e.g. B – educated off site – where we contact the the actual alternate provision directly to ensure a child has attended and advise the on roll school accordingly) authorities to be advised of any changes of a child’s placement immediately follow up calls to carers and social workers to find specific reasons for absences ability to request backdated attendance and attainment adaptable reporting based on authorities requests the ability to build a secure, but familiar relationship between all parties involved Welfare Call currently employees 80 members of staff from around our local community in South Yorkshire. All our staff are enhanced CRB/DBS checked to ensure that we meet current independent safeguarding regulations. They also go through a rigorous training programme to ensure that they are more than capable to collect the attendance data direct from the education provisions and record it in an accurate and reliable manner. Furthermore, all our call operators have completed an online safeguarding course that was hosted by Southwark authority. The course gave detailed information relating specifically to the safeguarding of children and what to do in certain circumstances. The course required each member of our staff to complete an online test which required 80% or more of the questions to be answered correctly in order to pass the course. This course has ensured that all our staff adheres to certain safeguarding regulations and ultimately ensures the safeguarding of looked after children. Welfare Call do not install any software or extract any information from a schools system, we only ever ask for the children’s information we are monitoring by name. Therefore there is never the risk of extraction of another child’s data which we should not have been given. This protects us as a company, the school and the authority from breaching any data protection protocol.

Virtual School Heads & Local Authorities │ Safeguarding the UK's most vulnerable children │ Managing Director at The Welfare Call Group
Congratulations to Bridget Phillipson for becoming the next Education Secretary in the new The Labour Party government. She showed massive support for kinship carers while she was Shadow Education Secretary, and in her current role, she speaks about reforming children’s social care to improve opportunities for the most vulnerable children. In her open letter to children’s sector professionals, she pledges to 'work with local government to provide loving, secure homes for children in care'. I hope we have the opportunity to work with Bridget in our work supporting Virtual School Heads to further improve the educational experiences and outcomes for our care-experienced children and children with a social worker. #virtualschool #virtualschoolhead #education #children #CYP #careexperienced #childrensservices #election #labour https://lnkd.in/eRfdjdgT

🎉 We're now in our fourth year of working in partnership with Wonde and it continues to go from strength to strength, providing Virtual School Heads with accurate and reliable data 🎉 Safeguarding vulnerable children is essential for every school. Our Attendance Monitoring solution is a vital tool enabling Local Authorities to take control and react where problems arise and strive for improvements in their absenteeism and exclusion figures. When it comes to collecting data, our ethos is to work with the Local Authority and provide a solution that works for them, be that an automatic data extraction, dedicated school calling, or a combination of the two. We've been working in partnership with Wonde to automatically extract data from school MIS' since 2020 with fantastic results. We've refined our processes and procedures over the past 4 years to ensure we collect, analyse and share the most reliable attendance data. We also commissioned Wonde to develop bespoke coding especially for us so that we can 100% guarantee schools that we only connect and collect data on the children we have a legal mandate for. We are now connected to over 4,000 education provisions via Wonde and utilise a hybrid model of extraction and calling to provide Virtual School Heads with the attendance data and the contextual information around it. And, most importantly, we offer access to daily and real-time analysis of this data. This provides valuable insights, allowing Local Authorities to cross-examine attendance, and drill down for detailed analysis which helps them empower improvements. #wonde #data #MIS #school #attendance #absenteeism #localauthorities #virtualschool #LAC #children #safeguarding

We are delighted to announce that our Chair, Andy Wright, has been named for the honour of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in His Majesty's Birthday Honours List for his services as Head Teacher and specifically 'for services to Children In Care, Care Experienced Young People and to the Education Community'. Throughout his career, Andy has sought to innovate and push the boundaries for the benefit of all young people, but particularly the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. He is passionate about fair access to education and creating inclusive school environments. Andy started his career as a Physical Education Teacher, being recognised nationally for his work with the 'Champion Coaching' programme which developed into the Youth Sports Trust . It was here that he started to understand the power of a trusted adult relationship to support young people through the most challenging of circumstances. His career in education continued as a Senior Leader, including as Head Teacher and Principal, in a range of secondary school across the West Midlands for ten years. This was recognised in the Pearsons Teaching Awards in the West Midlands, where he received a Head Teacher Commendation. He became expert in school improvement within challenging settings, transforming the ethos of schools, the behaviour, attendance and attainment of young people. He has been acknowledged by Ofsted as a leader who sets ‘a clear direction and vision focusing on raising aspirations and achievements’. Andy extended his educational leadership as Virtual School Head Teacher for Birmingham and subsequently for Dudley. In these roles he was able to use his skills and experience to benefit children in care and previously looked after children to ensure they had the opportunity and support to become independent and successful adults. Andy is skilled in partnership working, recognising the importance of connectivity across services, businesses and agencies for the benefit of all young people. Andy continues to use his wealth of experience to effect positive change. As Chair of ARC, and in his roles with Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) and National Association of Virtual School Head Teachers (NAVSH), he seeks to support schools to develop relational-based approaches and be attachment aware and embed trauma-informed practice. Andy is an amazing advocate for all young people and thoroughly deserves this recognition. We know it will just seek to motivate him more to deliver the change he wants to see across not just education, but health, social care and criminal justice too.
