About us
Founded in 1276, the Worshipful Company of Paviors is one of the City of London livery companies that have their foundation in the ancient guilds that regulated the standard of work and conditions of employment for craftsmen and apprentices working within the City. Today, the situation of the livery companies has altered, but many are still very active. Objectives The principal objective of the Paviors Company is ‘to further the craft of paving; that is the planning, design, construction, maintenance and management of all paved surfaces’. The Company also aims to foster and strengthen its reputation and links with the City of London, with all professions and trades associated with the craft of paving and relevant educational and charitable organizations, and to promote the well-being of its members and their families. The Company seeks to fulfil these aims by charitable gifts, personal service and the promotion of excellence. Membership Whilst the Paviors Company no longer controls the standards of the City’s street-works, a high percentage of its liverymen are directly connected with the highways industry, as contractors, consultants, materials and equipment suppliers, or academics. Other professions represented include: Other types of engineering Building Architecture Surveying Development Legal and financial services Activities Members of the Company enjoy a range of social activities that encourage fellowship. These include formal dinners and the ability to entertain guests in the traditional surrounds of the various livery halls. Members are encouraged to participate in the wider activities of the City of London and to support various charities and charity events. There are a number of societies within the Company whose activities are diverse and purposefully informal to enable members to get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere.

An experience of a lifetime, priceless and all down to The Worshipful Company of Paviors and the Royal Air Force (RAF) at Brize Norton as part of their Livery Fellowship Engagement Event in recognition of the support provided by Livery Companies. The journey started last night when 10 Paviors met up for a slap up steak dinner ready for a 6am start the next day. I was lucky to bag a seat on the Atlas A400M and flew to off the Norfolk coast to rendezvous with a Typhoon. We then headed across to Lake Windermere for some low level 2,000ft passes. We then met up with the rest of our fellow Liverymen in the Vogayer and another A400M to fly in formation and finally headed back to base for a demonstration of the A400M landing abilities on short runways. 170 Liverymen from across various Companies enjoyed this absolutely amazing experience. A huge thanks to all those who made this experience possible. I qualified as an accountant straight out of uni, but quickly realised I didn't tick the typical accountant/FD box. In a rant to my CFO of "Why will no one fix why this business is failing?"... I was asked to put my money where my mouth was and set up a team to improve operational processes & prevent future contract failure. Now, some 15 years later, having spent much of my career as a COO/Transformation Director in Facilities Management, Property & Online Marketplaces, I have co-founded a consulting firm that uniquely helps clients to identify the true drivers of underperformance so together we can implement change programmes that deliver lasting & exponential improvement in profits, processes, cultures & CX experience. It’s not always been plain sailing, though. Being made redundant in the same month as unexpectedly being told my husband wanted a divorce was definitely not a highlight.. but like many women trying to balance being a single mum to two young children, paying a crazy mortgage on one salary & a busy career, it was adversity that shaped who I have become today – a truly resilient leader, who goes above and beyond to make businesses & lives better. So why am I a Pavior, given I’m not in construction, I’m not a paver, and I’m certainly not an engineer… well in short, you don’t need to be. As one of the oldest livery companies in the city, the Paviors is a very broad church… but what connects us regardless of role or seniority is that in some small way, we all serve the world of “Built Estate & Infrastructure” we all have a joint love of connecting across the City and a strong desire to give back as part of the livery movement. If you’d like further information – pls don’t hesitate to PM me. Louise Harris COO CXY

Fraud is the most common type of crime in the UK, with 38% of all crime committed in England and Wales last year being fraud. As the National Lead Force for fraud, our City of London Police play a key role in co-ordinating and supporting national, regional and local police forces to tackle fraud, economic and cybercrime across England and Wales. Last night, I welcomed HRH The Princess Royal, the Home Secretary James Cleverly, international ministers, global law enforcement agencies, tech companies and industry partners to a dinner at Guildhall to kick off this week’s #FraudSummit24. Speaking to Sky News before the event, I emphasised the need for the international community to work together on combating economic crime and fraud together. I know the City of London Corporation is eager and able to play our part.

This year’s International Women’s Day is of added importance. I was honoured to witness Melanie Hampton become only the second female Master of The Worshipful Company of Paviors in the institution’s 748-year history. Like every woman, she has faced challenges and tribulations in her rise to the top, and her appointment marks an exciting opportunity for this organisation and for the entire status quo of our sector. Over the last few days, I have been proud to reflect on Melanie’s story and the impact she has made. I also want to celebrate all of the inspirational women who continue to fight against the obstacles we still face on a daily basis. The construction industry, in particular, is crying out for not only more women to join but for better representation across all levels of business. With skills shortages continuing to grow, now is the time that we must recognise that there are success stories waiting to happen in every corner of this sector, and we must continue to inspire and shine a light on the importance of better representing our communities as a whole. At FM Conway, I am committed to creating an environment that does exactly that. Our business has now cultivated a network of women who support each other to grow and thrive. Every year, we hold female-focused events and continuously introduce more initiatives that better attract, develop and promote women. I am proud to say we have been making a real difference, but I know there is still so much to be done. Every day, women are breaking down barriers in this industry. Although Melanie marks such an important point in the Paviors’ history, we must work together to follow her lead and ensure that our industry continues to push forward to become truly inclusive of each and every person in our society.
