The Worshipful Company of Masons is number 30 in the order of precedence of the Ancient Livery Companies of the City of London, as set by the Aldermen of the City in 1515. Today there are over 110 and the number continues to grow. The focus of our Livery Company is to preserve and encourage the use of natural stone in the built environment. This includes supporting the training of craftsmen as well as the preservation and appreciation of iconic historic stone buildings.

On a glorious early summers’ day representatives from The Masons' Company Craft Fund and Masons' Company Charitable Trust visited City and Guilds of London Art School Foundation Show and were welcomed by Principle Dr Lois Rowe. In a change from previous years the carving competition was limited to entry from first year graduates only. The theme was “under the Sea”. The competitors began their pieces the day before the visit and the quality produced in the twelve or so hours of carving was exceptional. The winner, and recipient of a cheque from the Masons' Company’s Craft Fund, was Mark Thompson with his carving of a Puffer Fish. In second place was Charlotte Ellery with her carving of an Ammonite. The Masons' Company Craft Fund support students from different stone colleges with grants towards attendance on courses and it was pleasing to see firsthand how grants are able to support talented stonemasons of the future . #livery #CityofLondon #stonemasonry #craftsmanship #competition

This weekend saw Liverymen visit The Wells Stone Carving Competition to rally behind Mason's Company Yeomen and other competitors. Under the impressive shadow of Wells Cathedral visitors were able to watch blocks of stone transformed into each mason's own vision over the three days. Liverymen and Guests recently spent an exclusive weekend at King's College Cambridge. Liverymen were able to undertake a night time tour of the grounds where they saw the recently installed tribute to Alan Turing by Sir Antony Gormley RA. What better way to celebrate St George's day than an exclusive tour of St George's Chapel Windsor with The Worshipful Company of Masons. Whilst unable to take photo's inside we were all amazed at how big it is -- and of course we all remembered her Majesty sitting alone during Covid restrictions which was a rather poignent moment for us all.
