About us

The National Lottery Community Fund has a critical role to play in supporting communities to unleash their energy and potential so they can get to where they want to be. We are one of 12 distributors of National Lottery funding. We work closely with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the license holder for The National Lottery, currently Allwyn, to distribute National Lottery funding across the UK. Social connections and community activities are at the heart of creating healthier, happier lives and a flourishing society. That’s why The National Lottery Community Fund supports amazing community-led projects, and why we’re looking to make a bigger difference in the years ahead, by listening and responding to communities and by focusing on supporting bolder change. Thanks to National Lottery players, we plan to distribute at least £4 billion of funding by 2030. Supporting projects that will create resilient communities that are more inclusive and environmentally sustainable. Projects that will strengthen society and improve lives across the UK. To find out more about our latest strategy, #ItStartsWithCommunity, visit our website: https://www.tnlcommunityfund.org.uk/about/our-strategy Our work is divided into five portfolios, covering funding across England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, and the UK. Each of these portfolios has its own committee of non-executives making major funding decisions via three funding streams: small grants under £20,000, larger grants of over £20,001 and partnership grants that support organisations to collaborate and innovate. When tackling health inequalities, there is always more work to be done ⚖️ For projects with limited funding, how can they work towards an Endgame which is right for them and those they support? Our recent blog details strategies from The National Lottery Community Fund health equalities grantees including: 🎯 Sustained delivery by the organisation. In this scenario, those delivering their work recognise its value and wish to continue it, achieving sustained funding. Gathering data to evidence their impact is key. 📈 Scaling up and expanding: recognising success, some organisations will want to see expansion beyond their original remit. The challenge they have now is one of replication and adaption to different contexts. 📢 Local and government system adoption. A successful programme doesn’t always have to be sustained by the original team working on it - for some organisations success means their approach being taken on beyond their team. 🔁 Achieving the mission: some projects will understand that their project has run its purpose. In these instances, it is essential for programmes to build structures that sustain the positive changes they have achieved. We’re working with voluntary organisations fighting to reduce health inequalities across the country, so they can understand and achieve their desired long-term Endgame. • In July 2023, we launched The UK Fund – one of our bold commitments as part our new strategy to tackle some of the big social issues facing UK communities. One year on from its launch, The UK Fund has helped to bring diverse communities together and build new relationships between people with different life experiences. 👫 Thanks to #NationalLottery players, communities from Belfast and Glasgow to Cardiff and Kent have benefitted from over £17 million of funding awarded to 12 projects. While we continue to support organisations that make us a better connected society, we're now also looking to fund projects that focus on creating lasting change by helping children and young people to thrive. We want to hear from ambitious organisations that prioritise the meaningful involvement of children and young people in decisions that affect them and their communities; particularly those who have fewer opportunities to have their voices heard or acted on. 📢 We’re also interested in groups that help other organisations build capacity or infrastructure to involve and listen to more children and young people. The projects we’re looking to fund must: • benefit communities across the UK • scale up their impact by expanding their work • support people experiencing poverty, disadvantage and discrimination • create significant changes to systems that affect people’s everyday lives.
