Non-profit Organizations
Sparkle is a registered UK charity, whose mission is to lead the way with trans inclusion.
About us
Sparkle – The National Transgender Charity is a registered UK charity (charity no. 1134725), whose reach extends to people who identify as transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming, their partners, families, friends, and wider society which they are part of. Sparkle began in 2005, as the organisers of the annual Sparkle Weekend, the original celebration of gender diversity. Since then, the Sparkle Festival has grown exponentially, with 13,000 visitors visiting in 2023. Sparkle is run by a team of dedicated and passionate volunteers, 80% of which identify as trans, non-binary, or gender variant. Our mission: - To lead the way with trans inclusion. - To promote a positive public image, awareness, and acceptance of the trans community in the UK and beyond. - To build confidence and resilience, to develop understanding and cohesion in society, and to challenge the stigma associated with being trans. What do we do? - The Sparkle Festival: the original celebration of gender diversity. - Fighting inequality and discrimination towards the trans community, through events, campaigning, and advocacy. - Community engagement: providing much needed trans visibility and trans joy! Engaging with the trans, non-binary, and gender variant communities which we serve. - Organising and hosting the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) Vigil in Manchester. - Leading the National Trans Memorial Project, partnered with ARUP. - Socials: providing a safe and affirming space for the community to socialise, get peer support, and have a good time!

Sparkle Weekend Volunteers! 🏳️⚧️ We couldn't run the event without the support of our fantastic weekend volunteers! Thank you to all those who volunteered this year - whether you set up the park and make it look beautiful, greeted visitors, fundraised, took fantastic photos, made sure the site was tidy, support different activities, or packed it all away! You are very valued and appreciated ❤ Photo credit: Sean (1-3), Hollie (4-5) and Breige (6-8) #SparkleWeekend #Volunteers #VoluntaryLed #TransCharity #GenderDiverse #Trans #Nonbinary #TransAlly #Manchester #GayVillage #LGBTQIA #Celebratingtranslivessince2005

Today is Zero HIV Stigma Day, a time to focus on raising awareness of the harmful stigmas associated with HIV and how to break them down. This year’s theme is “Beyond Labels: Redefining HIV Narratives.” The day coincides with Prudence Mabele’s birthday, an activist who was the first woman in South Africa to disclose her HIV status in 1992. Despite the huge advances in HIV treatment and U=U (undetectable = untransmittable), stigma toward people living with HIV still exists. That's why it is so important to raise awareness, stand up to stigma, and amplify voices ❤️ Check out George House Trust and Terrence Higgins Trust for more information #ZeroHIVStigmaDay #UequalsU #HIV #RedefiningHIVnarratives #HIVawareness

We need to pay our bills and invoices to ensure we can continue as an organisation, and start planning the Sparkle Weekend 2025 - our 20th Anniversary. Your donations are still incredibly valuable and appreciated. Please continue to support us by sharing and donating. We are so lucky to have the support of Building Equality When Lynne says their actions speak louder than words, that is absolutely true 🏳️⚧️
Yesterday I was given the absolute privilege of speaking on the main stage at Sparkle Weekend about the incredible work that we do in Building Equality. We stand up for for the trans+ community - we show up, we speak out, and we are there for the community. Not just during Sparkle Weekend, but every single day.
