Nature is in crisis. Together we can save it.

About us

Passionate about nature, dedicated to saving it. Since we started on our mission in 1889, the threats to nature have continued to grow, but we've grown to meet them too. We’re now the largest nature conservation charity in the UK (although our work stretches far beyond that), consistently delivering successful conservation, forging powerful new partnerships with other organisations and inspiring others to stand up and give nature the home it deserves.

Long week? Slow your racing thoughts and escape to nature. Notice the dappled sunlight of a woodland in summertime...the russet gleam of a Red Squirrel's coat as it leaps gracefully... birdsong fills the air...hear the rustle and swish of leaves on the breeze. This is your sign to step outside today.🍃 #RSPBNatureBreak

Swipe to grow a wildflower meadow! 🌻     >>>     Did you know? Since the 1930s, 97% of our wildflower meadows have vanished, taking with them vital homes for birds, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.     But these tiny heroes are essential - supporting a third of the food we eat.     That’s why we’re excited about our partnership with Ella's Kitchen.     Together, we’re working to restore and protect 30 million square feet of wildflower and grassland meadows by 2030, at nine sites across the UK – including Blacktoft Sands below!    Visit an RSPB reserve this summer and see first-hand how we're bringing back these beautiful habitats and the wildlife they support.     🌻 🌼 🌻 🌼

What if your chocolate could save a rainforest? 🍫🌳 Forest-friendly cocoa farming in Sierra Leone and Liberia is transforming lives and preserving biodiversity. Together, the RSPB, Jersey Overseas Aid, and The Ecological Restoration Fund are empowering local farmers to protect critical ecosystems while producing delicious cocoa. The initiative is not only boosting local economies but safeguarding endangered species like Western Chimpanzees, Pygmy Hippos and the globally threatened Yellow-casqued Hornbill. Chocolate that tastes good and does good? BIG yes. Tuck into the full story here: https://lnkd.in/d9HK2NaR #WorldChocolateDay

Did you know? Swifts eat, sleep, drink, bathe, and even mate on the wing, rarely landing except to nest. They can switch off one half of their brain to rest, drink by gliding low over water to take sips, & fly through rain to bathe... But these wonderful, fascinating birds are in trouble - with over half of their population vanishing in the last 25 years. You can help. By using Swift Mapper to log sightings of screaming Swifts and their nesting sites, your data will aid effective and targeted conservation actions. Together, we can make a difference and ensure a future for our Swifts. 💚 Ready to get involved? https://lnkd.in/eaqSBpWb #SwiftAwarenessWeek

I wanted to reflect on what has been an incredibly busy pre-election period, and what will be a critically important Parliamentary term if we are to restore our natural world.   This has been such an important election for our natural world. It’s clear that there is an overwhelmingly high level of support for nature and climate action among the UK public. Nowhere was this more evident than at the incredibly inspiring Restore Nature Now march just two weeks ago, where over 60,000 people took to the streets and took part in the largest ever demonstration in the name of nature. That mandate for action on climate and nature has now been reflected in the election results.   The UK has a legally binding target to halt the decline of nature in England by 2030, yet it remains one of the most nature-depleted places on earth. But there is hope: we still have a crucial window of opportunity to rewrite the current story of UK nature decline. We know the solutions that work and where they’re in place, they’re already making a difference.   During the election campaign, the Labour party – now leading the new UK Government – made a series of high-level commitments to turn around the fortunes of nature, including to meet our Environment Act targets, to ensure that nature is considered as part of major infrastructure and planning decisions and to rapidly revise the plan to save nature.   Our new UK Government needs to hit the ground running and set the vision, budget and direction of travel, and spur on action on a much bigger scale and at a faster pace than we’ve seen before. With just over five years until we reach the 2030 deadline, decisive action to restore nature will also be critical to meeting our climate commitments, improving our health and wellbeing and the long-term health of our economy.    As the new UK Government establishes its priorities for the first one hundred days, we believe there are five major challenges that urgently need to be addressed if we are to restore nature before it’s too late:   1. Empower farmers to help restore nature 2. Protect and restore landscapes to meet the 30x30 target 3. Hardwire nature into plans for economic growth and development 4. Save our seabirds 5. Restore the UK's position as environmental leader on the global stage   You can read more here: https://lnkd.in/ehG5rf4A
