In our latest media industry outlook, we uncover critical skill shortages in the UK, presenting unique challenges and opportunities for media businesses. Here are some key insights:   💡Despite 60% of businesses facing recruitment challenges over the last 12 months, a staggering 99% still proceeded with redundancies.   ✈️With 23% of surveyed businesses having UK employees working temporarily abroad, and 25% on a permanent basis, it appears employers are increasingly open to overseas work arrangements to attract and retain top talent.   🚺Among our respondents, 34% reported that 25-50% of their leadership team identified as female, showing progressive strides toward gender diversity.   🌍However, only 23% indicated a 25-50% proportion of leadership who identified as belonging to an ethnic minority.   Discover more about how these trends might affect your business by reading the full report:   https://lnkd.in/gccbcJc2   Mandy Girder David Blacher Richard Heap Kirsty Fraser Simon Adams   #Media #GlobalMobility #D&I #RSMInsights #RSMMediaOutlook

Consumers will start to loosen their belts when it comes to household budgets, with significant recovery in spending on eating and drinking out, takeaways and clothing and accessories. Our research into consumer finances and spending habits reveals as the economic climate eases, they’re more eager to part with their hard-earned cash. This improved positivity is rooted in higher disposable income. What else are we seeing? Consumers are feeling brighter generally about the economy, but there's still a sentiment hangover from the last few years of hardship which will influence cutbacks in some categories. The key - consumers still want value. Loyalty schemes are a big hit with spenders in the retail and hospitality sectors. Consumer Markets Senior Analyst Robyn Duffy goes into the details.

The positive signs of recovery remain, although it seems that the demand is domestic rather than being from export. Looking forward, we need to see strength from both to fuel growth of the UK economy. RSM UK Ben Horseman Lucy Chaplin Dip CIPR #manufacturing https://lnkd.in/ehaP4vyS

A rise in capital gains tax may well be on the horizon. It has a big impact on businesses looking to sell so deals are closing fast. More from our Private Client Tax Partner Chris Etherington in the FT.

It's a big week for the country but for some, July 4th is also a deadline that has been set for getting deals and transactions done due to fears around capital gains tax. I've had my say over the weekend in the Financial Times. There are good reasons why a rise in capital gains tax rates is not included in the manifestos of a number of parties and I'll be sharing my thoughts on that in a separate post. Even so, even just the speculation of potential rate changes is enough to encourage some taxpayers to get things done sooner rather than later and I'm sure I'm not alone in seeing a surge in activity over the last week or so. My view is that the likelihood of a CGT rate change in the current tax year is unlikely, regardless of the result on Friday morning. We could however see more focus on this in the coming months as we build up towards a first Budget of the new parliament. Enjoy! https://lnkd.in/eZGxhAXh #taxes #cgt

Sunny days have led to brighter news for Retail sales, with an uptick in May, but the upcoming UK general election has created a level of uncertainty that the industry doesn’t need. "An overhaul of the business rates system and a U-turn on tax-free shopping cannot be ignored if this important area of the economy has a chance of thriving.” Jacqui Baker shares her thoughts on whether growing consumer confidence is set to continue post-election

Great to be featured in the BBC News on today’s retail sales figures: https://lnkd.in/eNQsrhPt The latest ONS stats show a 2.9% jump in retail sales volumes for May, with online sales up by 5.9%, clothing up by 5.4%, and household goods up by 3.5% – the sunny days and economic improvements are making a difference. 🌞🌟 With consumer confidence improving and inflation at 2%, real wages growing, and interest rate cuts expected, the future is looking bright. Let's hope the Euros and Olympics fever give us a summer sales boost! But, with the general election around the corner, we need the next government to support retailers by reforming business rates and reintroducing tax-free shopping.
