To wrap up Plastic Free July, the Planning Portal team hit the streets of Bristol for an eye-opening clean-up. While the effort was rewarding, the volume of litter we collected highlighted a significant issue: as of 2017, 700,000 plastic bottles are discarded daily in the UK. Despite improved recycling rates for bottles, other plastics still fall short. Plastic waste has a severe environmental impact, lingering in landfills and polluting natural habitats for years. At Planning Portal and TerraQuest we’re committed to sustainability, and want to do all we can to support our sector in making eco-friendly choices. 🏡 Visit our sustainability hub to learn more about integrating sustainability into planning and building: https://ow.ly/yKyO50SOcLY #PlasticFreeJuly #Sustainability #EcoFriendly #PlasticPollution #CleanUp #EnvironmentalImpact #Recycling #SustainablePlanning #PlanningPortal

Chantelle Hallett, our Head of Product Management at TerraQuest, shares insights into the creation of our new Building Control Portal. Under Chantelle's leadership, we're committed to developing in an agile way to proactively create services tailored to industry needs. Our Building Control Portal, now integrated with the Planning Portal, represents a major step forward in digitising the planning process. This all-in-one platform supports building control bodies and applicants, ensuring a smoother, more efficient process. The only way we can achieve developments that continue to better the industry and the planning and building control process as a whole is by building a communicative and strong working relationship with professionals from the industry itself. We continuously engage with local authorities, agents, architects, and many others to create a robust feedback cycle. This approach allows us to consistently improve and develop the service, always aiming to make it more seamless, simpler, and well-suited to those who use it. Launched in April, the portal's initial features are already being updated and enhanced. We're dedicated to making it a comprehensive one-stop shop for all your planning and building control needs. ➡️We value your feedback as we continue to evolve this platform. 📊Our Planning Application Index, released prior to the recent election, delves into the pressing challenges surrounding housing delivery. Now, with a new government in place, it’s interesting to reflect on the outcomes highlighted in the report. Councillor John Merry, a prominent voice in local government, shares his insights: "With local authority finances under heavy strain, council leaders are consistently being put in a position where they have to make difficult decisions on even statutory services. This research sheds light on one such important service under threat: housing. And it is frustrating yet unsurprising to learn about the situation on the ground, whereby both planning applications as well as building activity for housing developments across England are slowing down." Key Cities, representing 27 urban centres across the UK, believes in granting local authorities the autonomy to drive positive change in their communities. Devolved powers and funding are crucial for long-term prosperity and stability. Given these insights, what do you think the new government will do to address the financial strains on local authorities? Will we see a stronger focus on enabling local authorities to drive housing delivery? ➡️For a detailed analysis of these challenges and more, read the full index report here: https://ow.ly/8MAk50SBnzp #PlanningSystem #EconomicChallenges #IndexReport #LocalGovernment #HousebuildingTargets #CommunityHousing #LocalAuthority

There was a strong focus on the central role of planning in building our cities, towns, and communities, emphasising the importance of attracting and retaining talent from diverse backgrounds. Discussions also highlighted the need for adequate resourcing and covering service costs within local authorities to build capacity and achieve key targets. ➡️Mike Kiely and Karen Shaw provided an insightful overview of senior POS members' expectations from the new government.
