To see the the Young Londoners' Manifesto, get involved, or see our research, please go to: https://lnkd.in/eMN8CPmZ We would like to share the Young Londoners’ Manifesto leading up to the Mayoral and Assembly Elections in London on Thursday 2 May. This has been collated with young Londoners and a diverse network of London’s youth sector, aiming to profile how we collaborate and make London A Fairer City for all young people. This includes asks for the Mayor of London and Assembly Members as well as information on how the youth sector will continue to collaborate informed by young Londoners’ policy priorities. 1. Young Londoners’ Manifesto – ‘Make London the best city to grow up in’ This has been designed by Partnership for Young London and London Youth with a diverse network of youth sector leads, including some members of the Young Londoners Coalitions. This includes a series of asks for the London Mayor and also details on the collaboration in place across the youth sector. 2. A Fairer City - This report was collated by young Londoners and the youth sector; it highlights the policy solutions designed by peer research advisory board at Partnership for Young London and presents a series of case studies on the work already underway across the youth sector. 3. Empowering Voices and Inspiring Change – This report and video was produced at a youth-led event in January 2024, which focused on how youth voice and engagement can lead to change in policy and practice. We are all committed to working in partnership with young Londoners to make London A Fairer City and would welcome the opportunity to talk to all mayoral and assembly candidates with young people from across our networks to discuss the Manifesto and Young Londoner’s aspirations and policy solutions. New short article on the youth vote (18-24) at the 2024 General Election by Matt Henn and myself for the excellent Election Analysis 2024 report with an amazing array of other academic authors. In it we describe: 1. The 'youthquake' in support for the progressive parties (especially amongst young women and students - 23% of young women voted Green!). 2. The collapse of the Conservative vote (from 30% in 2010, to 20% in 2019 to 8% in 2024). 3. Youth support for Labour (41%) as 'shallow' - a significant amount of young people (16%) migrated to the Greens and Lib Dems through the campaign. 4. Decrease in support for Labour + Conservatives combined - from over three-quarters in 2019 (76%) to under a half (49%) in 2024. We attribute Labour's shallow support amongst young people as a failure to communicate (centre-stage) with young people over what the policies in the manifesto e.g. Green jobs, Young Futures hubs, would mean to them as well as a failure to develop a cohesive youth offer e.g. housing, mental health, the environment, youth services. The challenge now is to strategize, deliver and communicate a more effective youth offer in government. James Dennis Darren Lilleker Lee Jerome Nick Anstead Rosie Campbell Ana Isabel Nunes .
