After last week's election result, we shared our aims for working with the new government and ensuring that local infrastructure organisations and the wider voluntary sector are recognised as equal strategic partners. Here's what we said 👇
In the leadup to the general election, we called on all political parties to recognise the value of local infrastructure support for the voluntary sector, and the importance of working together for thriving communities. Now, on behalf of our members, we look forward to working with the new Labour government so that the VCSE sector can act as an equal strategic partner with government, both centrally and locally. The election of a new government creates the opportunity for the expertise and experience of the VCSE sector to inform problem solving and policy making from the beginning. Local infrastructure organisations are leaders in their local voluntary sector, and have been supporting their communities through changes in government and through national crises, including the cost of living crisis and the pandemic. As we go through another period of change, they will continue to work with communities to help them thrive. At NAVCA, we will continue to advocate for recognition of the voluntary sector as an equal strategic partner to government, and we will continue to champion high-quality local infrastructure everywhere, to ensure that all people can flourish.

Partnerships and collaboration are so important when it comes to the health and wellbeing of our local communities. That's why it's crucial that social prescribing is run collaboratively between healthcare systems and the voluntary sector. We visited NAVCA member BURNLEY, PENDLE & ROSSENDALE COUNCIL FOR VOLUNTARY SERVICE and Burnley East Primary Care Network to talk to them about the value of working together in communities. At our conference in May, we invited Mahnoor Kamran to host a workshop for our members on climate justice and intersectionality, and how this impacts them in their area of work. We have received excellent feedback from conference attendees about Mahnoor's workshop, including an openness to being challenged on power and privilege, and what this means when it comes to supporting local communities. We look forward to continuing to promote an intersectional approach within our membership and wider networks. You can find out more about our conference and what we do on our profile.

Had the most incredible time facilitating a workshop titled 'Introduction to Climate Justice and Intersectionality' at the annual NAVCA Summit in Birmingham by myself. This was the first time I had full autonomy over what I could produce, and was my first solo-workshop facilitation. It was inspiring to hear from the collective, and to witness how so many of our struggles our intertwined. Many told me that this was the first time their power and privilege was questioned; and I'm glad we are becoming more open to these conversations. We discussed everything from climate inequality and colonialism, to nature access and identity (and obviously Leah Thomas' book) before linking it to volunteering in community spaces. Thank you Emily Lewis for inviting me and for letting me have full autonomy over this.

The general election is an opportunity for the government to work in partnership with local infrastructure organisations to ensure that communities can not only survive but thrive. We spoke to our members about the importance of collective voice, partnerships, and a strong network of local infrastructure organisations across England. Here's what they said 👇
We are pleased to launch our new video, ahead of the general election, to emphasise the importance of partnerships and collaboration. It's been two weeks since we launched our general election resource, 'The power of local infrastructure: Working in partnership for thriving communities'. We know that local infrastructure has huge power and potential to ensure that all communities thrive, and any new government needs to work with NAVCA members to achieve this. Check out our resource below to find out what value local infrastructure organisations can bring, and what needs to change for more effective partnership working.
Ahead of the general election, we want to talk about power - the power of local infrastructure in supporting a new government to achieve better outcomes for communities. We know that the voluntary sector, supported by high-quality local infrastructure organisations, directly contributes to thriving communities. We also know that there are key policy changes that can be made by a new government to enable a strategic partnership with local infrastructure and the wider voluntary sector. That's why we're calling on the incoming government to work with us and our members to improve lives in communities across England. Check it out:
