Co-founder & CEO | Strong teams, built better | Strategic talent planning | Hiring | Talent advisor | Mentor | Public speaker | 10ksb alumni
My London Tech Week secret: Enjoy the vastness but lean into the bits on the side. Oli Barrett mentioned that 45,000 people are attending London Tech Week, and at times, it felt like they were all there yesterday 😅 The move to Olympia is part of accommodating the appeal to so many, and the global interest was clear yesterday, looking at the countries represented by exhibitors, speakers, and attendees. The highlight from the agenda for me was the Tech Nation Rising Stars pitches. Twelve diverse founders tackled a range of problems and opportunities, representing regions from across the UK—a great example of using London to show that there’s so much more talent than bounded by the M25. But I did find the scale of London Tech Week a bit overwhelming. Later on, I attended Evgeny Shadchnev PCC’s book launch on the taboo subject of replacing founding CEOs. It’s a topic that fascinates me, and I’ve had several discussions with founders, chairs, and investors about it. The book launch and panel was a fascinating event that I’ll post more about, but the intimate nature reminded me what I truly enjoy about London Tech Week. It’s a magnet for so many people, presenting opportunities for smaller, more focused get-togethers that are where my real enjoyment comes from. So, I’m here for another two days, but you’re more likely to find me at the fringe events. And if you’re wanting an escape, then coffees on the side are always an option! How do you find the scale of London Tech Week? And what are the hidden gems I need to look out for?
