We now we have a new Labour government following the results from the election on 4th July. But what might still be unclear is how the result will impact the way civil society work with government and how the sector can influence policy. And what will the result mean for the funding context in London? We’re keen to get to the heart of these issues, to help our members think and plan ahead, so for our July insight meeting, we will bring members together to discuss the implications of the general election results, to start getting the answers to the questions above. To help explore this further, we're delighted to be joined by Jay Kennedy, Director of Policy and Research at Directory of Social Change; Yolande Burgess, Strategy Director at London Councils; Sanjay Odedra, Director of Communications and Campaigns at BusinessLDN and Hannah Hoare, Executive Director from The Blue Thread. LF members can sign up here - https://lnkd.in/evEmtvmU To ensure that our members are informed about how current events, demographic trends, and policy decisions affect the lives of the communities we serve, London Funders hosts monthly member-exclusive insight meetings, where funders can get together in response to issues as they arise. In response to the appetite from our members to support and drive real change for London's communities, our new learning question focuses on systemic change - recognising the need for community groups and organisations to be supported in tackling the root causes of issues - we spoke with Leah Black who is currently leading the Regenerative Futures Fund in Edinburgh. We are really excited to share the Q+A which explores the intentions, processes and work that has gone into the project - a ten-year fund that focuses on poverty, the climate emergency and racial justice in the city. Leah also shares some of the challenges faced from this work and the learning that has come out of it so far. Read here ➡ https://lnkd.in/ej863GMv And for those who are keen to learn more about systemic change and those who are at its forefront, keep an eye out on our page as we'll be sharing more learning around systemic change in the coming months!

🚨We are recruiting for a new Chair🙌 The Chair role is critical to London Funders' success as a membership body – leading the Board, ensuring all Trustees can be actively involved in the effective governance of the charity; and keeping the team on track in delivering against our vision and strategy for a fairer, safer & greener London. There aren’t many roles where you get to make a real difference across every part of London, and across all areas of funding activity – but as the new Chair of London Funders you’ll be leading the governance of an organisation that works with members who fund from Barnet to Bromley, from the Arts to zoos, and everything and everyone in between. The 170+ member organisations of London Funders (who come from across the public, private and philanthropic sectors) distribute over £750m every year, and it’s our role to bring them together to build a better London by taking action on what matters to our city and our communities. Check out the full recruitment pack here➡️ https://lnkd.in/e-McMpRN We also want to say a huge thank you to David Farnsworth of City Bridge Foundation whose term as London Funders’ Chair is coming to an end. His leadership and commitment over the last nine years have been critical to the positive change we’ve been able to make for London’s communities👏

Post-Election we're leaning into the current uncertainty of the next few years by sharing what civil society is asking of the next government, looking at where the two's intentions align and where they decouple. Our latest blog explores some of the most important topics for this year's ballots such as climate, charity and community - referencing reports, manifestos and campaign asks from civil society organisations including BusinessLDN Living Wage Foundation The Trussell Trust "The new ministers have a lot on their to-do list. Promises are one thing – especially those made on the campaign trail when you are looking to appeal to the broader public and potential vote-switchers in particular. However now that this government has been elected, we feel it is important to look beyond the slogans and soundbites, to consider what civil society is asking of this new government and how these fit within Labour’s promises." -Lucy McCabe Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gb6XJJ5S

Thank you to everyone who attended our Housing and Homelessness network meeting today 🙌 Filled with conversation around working towards better temporary accommodation and exploring funding prevention work and exploration, chaired by Commonweal Housing. We heard from LF member Trust for London, alongside their Better Temporary Accommodation for London partners, The Magpie Project and Justlife Foundation, as well as The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales about the Homewards project. Sharing their insights around working in collaboration cross-sector, not duplicating work, sharing power (not work!) with communities, and systems change to ensure better housing outcomes for all Londoners. The network is open to all London Funders' members interested in or actively funding issues related to housing and homelessness. Our member-led networks are a space for funders working on or interested in specific areas to meet on a regular basis to exchange knowledge and ideas, find out about other members’ programmes and current activities, hear from our friends in the sector, horizon scan, troubleshoot challenges, and seek opportunities to collaborate.
