We bring together world-class research, education and clinical practice to benefit patients in London and beyond.
About us
King's Health Partners is an Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC) where world-class research, education, and clinical practice are brought together for the benefit of patients. One of eight AHSCs nationally, our partnership brings together three NHS Foundation Trusts (Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital, and South London and Maudsley), and an internationally rated top 25 university in health research and education, King’s College London. We work to ensure that lessons from research are used more swiftly, effectively, and systematically, to improve healthcare services for everyone in our diverse local population. We work on the most pressing health issues facing the world, including bringing together research and treatment of the mind and body, providing a comprehensive offering for local care from conception to end of life. Our populations have high levels of deprivation and inequality, and a higher-than-average prevalence of a range of conditions, including diabetes and psychosis. We have a broad research portfolio totalling more than £210 million in research grants per year, and the largest range of education and training opportunities (allied to medicine) in Europe. We have a range of world-class research centres, including a National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) funded Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). With combined funding of £130 million, we are third in the UK for Medical Research Council (MRC) awards and are a founding member of the Francis Crick Institute. We bring together more than 46,000 NHS staff with 31,000 students and academics, to translate cutting-edge research into excellent patient care through world-class education and training. We deliver high impact innovation - discovering new insights into disease, transforming diagnostics and unlocking new therapies and digital tools. Together we represent a £4.2 billion partnership, with more than 4.2 million patient contacts each year.

Do you think with your ❤️ or your 🧠? Prof Anne Pollock, Head of the Department of Global Health & Social Medicine at King's College London, argued in her article ‘Heart feminism’ that “thinking with the heart has value for feminist theory.” 'Careful Whisper' is a new installation currently on display at Science Gallery London. The installation explores the intersection of art, heart and feminist science by drawing on Prof Anne Pollock's ‘Heart feminism’ article while sharing sonic experiments from cardiology labs. Make sure you check out this unique exhibit before it closes on Saturday 3 August ➡ https://lnkd.in/en-Mv_yQ Goldsmiths, University of London | Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience

The Diabetes Technology Foundation workshop yesterday with colleagues across King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust was a great success. Our immersive, speed dating event meant six different industry partners were able to effectively train and upskill all attendees in the current diabetes technologies available. Hearing from four expert patients living with diabetes, facilitating a lively panel discussion, and exploring a number of case studies was distinctly insightful and powerful. A huge thank you to everyone who made this event so valuable and enjoyable! Cc Geraldine Gallen MSc Pender Siobhan Sophie Harris Insulin Safety Week King's Health Partners

Sepsis is a rare and very serious reaction to an infection, but it can be hard to identify. That's why Advanced Clinical Practitioner teams (ACPs) exist to help improve the early identification and prompt treatment of sepsis. All healthcare professionals, patients and the public need to be aware of the signs and symptoms of sepsis, which include: fever, hypotension, tachycardia and confusion. If healthcare professionals are concerned or worried about a patient they can alert a member of the medical team for review. Sarah Casboult, Simon Slade, James Manns, and Kelly Brockman are members of an ACP team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and they shared with us how their work helps to make a difference ⬇
