Luckily, iconic Christie's apprentices Khadijah and Darla are tackling terms from the art world head-on in our new Jargon-Busting series. But why make a video series debunking industry-specific terms like “Night Sale” and “Fair Warning”? 🤔 We’ve got a simple answer for that. The majority of our members will be pursuing careers in industries that are vastly different from their parent’s jobs. Aspiring for those hard-to-crack industries, famously shrouded in mystery and full of confusing jargon, it raises the question: who are you supposed to ask for a hand when you need it? What even is an assessment centre? And what do you actually do there? 🫥 Thank goodness for our friends over at Beam who are there to help. On June 22nd, a group of our members trooped down to Beam’s London office. The Beam team ran a hands-on session for our members to get in some interview and assessment centre practice - an essential for smashing any career prep our members are carrying out. The workshop was run by Ziyad, who actually works in Recruitment himself - so he knows EXACTLY what interviewers are looking for. 📢 Finally, make some noise for our players hailing in from Zero Gravity HQ 📢 Honoured to announce a few members of our team lineup: Daniel, Jack, Shiv, Alex and Sophie. 💻 Dan, self-proclaimed “natural replacement for Kalvin Phillips”, is one of our engineers and therefore integral to building the Zero Gravity platform - if he can run as quick as he can code, we’re sure to be in for some great football. 👨💻Next, we have Jack. Also representing our Dev team, Jack confidently and with his chest proclaims, “I have no abilities. Sometimes I get in the way of the ball and it does something cool.” Loving the enthusiasm - Jack is clearly one to watch. 🤑Next up, we’ve got Shiv. As Head of Scholarships, he can work his way round a spreadsheet. But can he work his way round the pitch? We asked him to check: "At a statuesque 5ft 4, I can safely say I've never won a header, but I've dreamt playing on the big stage like this since I was 4 years old. Here's to hoping for a Messi-like performance, with more nutmegs than my kitchen spice rack". 👉Next up is Alex, our School Strategy Lead, hitting the Marcus Rashford goal celebration pose, doubtless in an allusion to his own Rashford-level footie skills. How does he feel about his abilities? “How do I feel? Pumped. The last time I played football I scored an own goal and pulled my hamstring - I'll be channelling that chaotic energy on the pitch to bamboozle our opponents and ensure victory for my team!” 🎥 Last but not least, we have Sophie, our resident Content Editor. When asked for a comment, she said, “You guys know I can’t play football right?” Inspiring. Soph will be wheeling around filming the event with our videographer Lorenzo but has promised to bring her (dubious) footie skills to the pitch for a spell. What a lineup! Wouldn’t really be a Zero Gravity football match if we didn’t have our members playing, would it! Gassed to announce three of our absolute heavy-weights who will be helping us to tear up the pitch on Saturday 20th July: ⚽ Introducing Bradley Asumang. He’s been injured for a season, but he is still an official player of Imperial University, so hoping he’ll be able to stretch it out and bring his exceptionally nifty footwork onto the field. ⚽ Next up we have Zak Adams, an excellent player on transfer from Harvard University, USA, sure to knock out some internationally-renowned worldies. ⚽ Topping off our player spotlights, we have Oluchi Ijeh from the Manchester Uni massive. An absolute legend on the pitch, who was casually showing off her footie skills and led Bradley to demand that we put him on the same team as her (love the winners mentality). Don’t be fooled though - Zak, Bradley and Oluchi do as much work off the pitch as on it. All three of them were in our Zero Gravity Ambassadors cohort from ‘23-’24, aiming to level the playing field at their universities. Thrilled to announce our official CAPTAINS for the Zero Gravity Community Cup ⚽⚽⚽ On one half of the pitch, we’ll have Joe Seddon, Captain of Seddona FC and founder-CEO of Zero Gravity. An established champion in the social mobility space, hailing from the small town of Morley, but with big dreams and ambition to boot. On the other half of the pitch, we’ll have Peter Wood, Captain of Wood Ya Believe It FC and Founder-CEO of The Graduate Guide podcast. A fantastic young player already making some serious moves in the graduate space, powering himself and others into stratospheric success. Joe and Peter are both legends aspiring to help students and grads navigate the academic and working world. Strong leaders who stand up for what they believe in, straight talkers who hold themselves and others to a high standard.
