Connecting, informing and empowering LGBTQ+ Engineers and supporters

About us

At InterEngineering, we connect, inform and empower lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer + (LGBTQ+) engineers and supporters. We invite engineers of all backgrounds as well as those working in engineering to join us in helping improve diversity and inclusion across the sector. We achieve this by: Connecting Providing networking opportunities for LGBT engineers in different companies to meet, discuss improvements the profession could be making and share best practice for growing company support. Informing Sharing and collecting experiences and resources of LGBT people working in engineering and promoting wider initiatives within the industry to help promote diversity and inclusion. Empowering Running events to help LGBT engineers create their own company networks to promote and support diversity in their workplaces, and providing a forum for smaller enterprises.

What a brilliant day it was on Saturday with InterEngineering participating in Pride in London parade. The theme of the parade this year was 'We Are Everywhere In every space. In every place. In every moment. We are where we’ve always been. Everywhere...' This really rings true both for the LGBTQIA+ community and for engineers, both for InterEngineering's participation in the parade and the importance of engineering in everyday life. We were kindly joined and supported by De Beers Group and Anglo American. It brings so much joy and energy to us to see everyone collaborating to connect and empower LGBTQIA+ engineers and allies from around the globe. #WeAreEverywhere

Not only is today the last working day of Pride Month, it is also my last day at SICK, and my last day working in the Automation Engineering and Mobile Machinery sectors I've worked in over for the past 10 years. I will be moving into a role focusing on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within the Engineering sector, something about which I am incredibly passionate. This is not a decision I've taken lightly, as it marks a significant change in my career, but it's a step that I have to make given the experiences I've had. The power of sharing stories is something that is talked about frequently in DEI. I was honoured to speak to The Engineer UK about my time in this industry and the challenges and barriers that had led to my change in career and increased motivation for DEI advocacy, who have published my Pride Story. I also talk about some of the research I've done, finding from the research, and the importance of ERGs and networks such as InterEngineering.

We have had some great feedback from our latest instalment of our Re-engineering Pride Webinar series. This month we talked about initiatives that go 'beyond the rainbow', and we were delighted to be joined by Kristina Korsaks from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and Erik Tomlin from the Royal Academy of Engineering, hosted by our Co-chairs, Fiona Connor and Patrick Murray Whitham. We look forward to meeting everyone who is marching with us on tomorrow at Pride in London to finish our Pride Month activities. However, Pride isn't limited to just one month, so keep a look out for other events coming up over the rest of the year. Don't forget that you can find the recording of all of our previous webinars on our website, along with details of past and future events.
