    Microsoft outage has parts of the world at a standstill. So, what do you do if your employees can’t work? 💬 Communicate: If you can, inform your team about the situation and affected systems. 💡 Assign alternative duties: If contracts allow, ask employees to perform reasonable tasks outside their usual roles. 💷 Pay your employees: If you can't provide work due to the outage, employees should still be paid. 🏖 Require holiday: If the outage lasts several days, you can require employees to take holiday with notice. For example, give 4 days' notice for 2 days of holiday. This may not be useful for outages lasting only a day. Need help managing the disruptions?     Our employment lawyer shares her thoughts on the King's speech 👇 👑

    Notes on the Kings Speech re Employment Law Changes (expanding on the actual speech) as follows: - Ban on exploitative zero hours contracts - right to a contract that reflects the number of hours they regularly work and reasonable notice of change - End of 'fire and rehire' - Protection from Unfair Dismissal day 1 right - employers will be able to operate probationary periods to assess new hires- how this will work in practice and the limits on this remains to be seen - Parental Leave and Sick Pay- day 1 right (removal of lower earnings limit and waiting period) - Flexible working default from day 1 with employers required to accommodate 'as far as is reasonable' - what is 'reasonable' will remain to be seen - Unlawful to dismiss a women for 6 months after return from maternity leave except in specific circumstances
