It was our pleasure yesterday to welcome a team of 22 nationwide Project Managers and Business Analysts from Currys plc to the Hospice for a team volunteering day! Some of the team were on the phones working on a supporter gift aid project (Thanks to the efforts of the Currys’ team we will be claiming £5,007 in additional Gift Aid!), whilst others helped with the set up of our Summer Sound and Classic Car event! (Join us tomorrow for what promises to be a fab event - https://lnkd.in/eag-mKH3) The amount raised could fund an entire day’s care for all IPU and community patients! 🧐 Watch the Hospice Memory Tree being updated. 🌳 Our beautiful Memory Tree now has a number of new woodland features….. Can you spot the 🦉birds, 🦋butterflies, 🐰rabbits, squirrels, 🦔hedgehogs and a pheasant? The Hospice of St Francis Memory Tree is a beautiful wall sculpture, handcrafted by local artist Claudia Ashley-Brown a Sculptural Artist and made possible from the support of a kind donor. Created in 2015 and situated in the peaceful setting of The Sanctuary in the heart of the Hospice, the Memory Tree is a meaningful way to honor the memory of someone special whilst supporting vital care for patients and their families. The Memory Tree is made up of 450 gold, copper and russet metal leaves, with a bronze trunk and branches. In keeping with the beautiful woodland surroundings of the Hospice, the tree also now features birds, butterflies, flowerheads, rabbits, squirrels, hedgehogs and a pheasant. Leaves and animals are inscribed with your choice of words in a dedication to a loved one and placed on the Tree as a lasting tribute. With torrential weather and a venue change at such short notice it was heart warming to see so many of you turn up. Change of Venue for tonight's summer networking evening! - The Artemis restaurant at The Denton, Elysian Residences Ltd, Berkhamsted. We are sorry to say the great British weather has beaten us! With a soggy marquee and the rain showing no signs of letting up, we don't want to force an event that may fall below our usual standards when we know our annual garden CPN is normally the most wonderful evening. So when at very short notice the Elysian Residences Ltd kindly offered to host for us this evening, in their new restaurant, The Artemis, we couldn't say no! Especially as they were already kind enough to be supplying food for the evening. 💜 A YEAR OF FUNDRAISING FOR NEIL 💜 Liz Cundale's husband, Neil, became very ill just before he turned 40. He bravely endured treatment but after a year it became clear that he needed the specialist care of The Hospice of St Francis. Nineteen months after he was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, Neil died with Liz lying next to him in the Hospice cuddle bed, in October 2023. 🎯 Liz set herself the target of raising £100,000 and started fundraising the day he died. Liz explains why she wanted to raise funds for us: "The Hospice is such a special place, not only did Neil receive exemplary care, but so did I and the children and we continue to do so and we visit the Hospice regularly". With the help of Liz and Neil's two young daughters, their friends and family and the amazing support of Neil's colleagues at Hillier Hopkins, Liz and team have so far raised over £67,000, which is an amazing achievement. Liz has worked tirelessly to coordinate fundraising events including a bake sale, raffle, fitness challenges, football tournament and a 26 mile walk along the Ridgeway, with more activities to come. We are thrilled that Liz has 21 friends running the Great North Run this September - this was one of Neil's wishes, he ran the race himself just months before he became ill.
