Yesterday digital publication Sheerluxe announced their new fashion and lifestyle editor ‘Reem’, but there was something different about the new team member… ‘She’ is AI-generated. For a company that is well known for its employees becoming creators for the brand, with their much-loved office TikToks, it was shocking to many that the company decided their next team member would be AI, rather than an actual person that audiences can get to know and love. The reaction has been mixed. Some have loved the innovative approach and questioned whether this could be the start of a new era within digital marketing, publications, and the creator economy. But others have criticised the move, citing the mass layoffs within journalism fueled by publications turning to AI, and how they would have preferred Sheerluxe hired an actual woman of colour. Where do you stand on the Sheerluxe debate?
Earlier today, SheerLuxe announced their newest recruit, AI enhanced team member 'Reem,' who has joined the team as a fashion and lifestyle editor, and the reaction has been a mixed one 😳 Pros and cons from users have included: 👍🏽 Pushing boundaries and creating innovative, unique content, experimenting with AI 👎🏽 Falsifying diversity, creating unrealistic beauty standards, giving already limited fashion journalism jobs to AI bots, misrepresenting Arab women in the media, generally uninspiring and confusing As you can see from the reactions so far (the announcement was posted 2 hours ago,) Reem doesn't seem to have had the warm welcome she might have expected.... What are your thoughts? #Sheerluxe #AIbot #SocialMedia #AI
