Yesterday digital publication Sheerluxe announced their new fashion and lifestyle editor ‘Reem’, but there was something different about the new team member… ‘She’ is AI-generated. For a company that is well known for its employees becoming creators for the brand, with their much-loved office TikToks, it was shocking to many that the company decided their next team member would be AI, rather than an actual person that audiences can get to know and love. The reaction has been mixed. Some have loved the innovative approach and questioned whether this could be the start of a new era within digital marketing, publications, and the creator economy. But others have criticised the move, citing the mass layoffs within journalism fueled by publications turning to AI, and how they would have preferred Sheerluxe hired an actual woman of colour. 🤝 Three creator economy trade associations from the UK, France, and Germany, have come together to form the European Influencer Marketing Alliance (EIMA). The alliance aims to elevate industry standards and promote responsible influence across Europe and has already been accepted into the European Advertising Standards Alliance.
