Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage
Non-profit Organizations
A global partnership of more than 1,600 civil society organisations committed to ending child marriage
About us
Girls Not Brides is the only global organisation uniquely focused on creating and sustaining a worldwide movement to end child marriage, and ensuring that this movement leads to tangible change for the girls at risk or affected by the practice. We are a network of over 1,400 civil society organisations in over 100 countries working in partnership to end child marriage. Our vision is a world without child marriage where girls and women enjoy equal status with boys and men and are able to achieve their full potential in all aspects of their lives. Our vision challenges deeply embedded social norms that harm the lives of girls, women and their communities.

#MovementMakers 🗨 "Girls should be in school. Otherwise, they will be at risk of early and forced marriage." 📚 To continue his education, Dr Om walked 14-15 kilometres every day. Now, he champions access to education for all in India, ensuring out-of-school girls can re-enter education and campaigned to ensure the passing of the 2009 Right to Education Act for children aged 6-14 years old. 📽 Get inspired by Dr. Om's story: https://lnkd.in/eW-THJY6 Dr. Om's story is part of our new campaign, #MovementMakers, showcasing incredible activists from within the movement to #endchildmarriage and their impactful journeys. #Storytelling #Education #EducationForAll

📢 #TheGambia's Parliament upholds ban on FGM/C! A bill that seeks to repeal the 2015 ban on FGM/C in The Gambia has been rejected. If passed, this would have been the first time a ban on FGM/C has been reversed. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eH9YJSvd #EndFGM #Advocacy

🎓On #YouthSkillsDay, we celebrate the adoption of an HRC resolution establishing a working group on an #UNCRC optional protocol for free pre-primary & secondary education—a big step to #EndChildMarriage & equip youth with skills needed to fulfil their potential. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eSHhDtNt #Advocacy #UNHRC #Education
📢 Let’s shape the future of #education together! We’re advocating for free early and secondary education through the establishment of a new Optional Protocol. The time to act is now, join us in advocating for this change before the Human Rights Council in June 2024. On 24 July, The Gambia's National Assembly will vote on a bill that seeks to repeal the FGM/C ban. We urge Gambia to uphold the prohibition of FGM. If the bill passes, Gambia will be the first country in the world to overturn a ban on FGM. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eH9YJSvd
#HRC56 Today, at the #HumanRightsCouncil in Geneva, we delivered a crucial oral intervention urging states to accelerate efforts to #EndChildMarriage. Girls Not Brides, GAMCOTRAP and Equality Now urge states to: 1️⃣ Support the establishment of a new Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which would expand the right to #education to include at least one year of free pre-primary education, and free secondary education; 2️⃣ Adopt policy measures that increase adolescent girls’ autonomy in the household, making work a viable option; coupled with facilitating employment opportunities as an alternative to marriage; and 3️⃣ Adopt and protect, where these exist, legislative measures that outlaw child marriage and other harmful practices, including #FGM/C, including by supporting efforts to maintain the current law against FGM/C in The Gambia. It's time to take decisive steps towards protecting the rights and futures of all children.

🌟 Exciting Announcement! 🌟 I am thrilled to share that I recently participated in a radio show on Deutsche Welle to discuss the crucial issue of child marriage and the law criminalizing child marriages in Sierra Leone. It was an incredible opportunity to highlight the important work we are doing at Girls Not Brides and to share our recommendations on support measures accompanying the laws. A huge thank you to Nashon Tado, and Konstanze Fischer for the invitation.
