Our thanks to author Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe for her positive comments about ReadCube's Papers AI Assistant in her new article in The Scholarly Kitchen. Lisa compares AI-enabled tools to support the sharing and understanding of scholarly communication. She writes: "...not only did the Papers AI save me a great deal of time by providing me with an overview annotated with links to specific sections of the text, it also often alerted me to places in the text where my topic of interest was conceptually discussed without the use of the specific keywords I would have searched. Most valuable to me is that Papers operates outside the confines of a particular content platform." See more in her full post: https://lnkd.in/gsvJd22A

Check out this new analysis from James Butcher using Dimensions, which looks at research articles published in the first six months of this year compared with the same period last year.
I help editors and publishers create impactful journals. Now: Journalology. Previously: Vice President, Nature journals; Executive Editor, The Lancet.
Research article output in fully OA journals fell by 16% in the first half of this year, compared with the first six months of 2023. By contrast, hybrid OA grew by 2.7%. Subscription content was broadly constant. But that's only part of the story. The largest fully OA journals have grown rapidly (Unless they're published by MDPI) Scientific Reports: +41% Cureus: +48% Heliyon: +90% Nature Communications: +42% Elsevier and Springer Nature have bucked the trend and are doing particularly well. Elsevier published 14% more research articles in H1 2024 compared with H1 2023. Springer Nature grew by 18%. The Empire Strikes Back. You can read the full analysis in this week's Journalology newsletter: https://lnkd.in/e-b6cztx --- For more insights into scholarly publishing follow me, James Butcher, on LinkedIn. I also write a free newsletter, Journalology, which is sent to over 4000 people each week. You can sign up using the link in my profile. #scholarlypublishing #academicpublishing #openaccess
