Dakota is a growing UK-based lifestyle brand, known for our stylish hotels, bustling brasserie Grills and upscale cocktail Bars. Dakota’s story started with two boutique hotels on the outskirts of Edinburgh, in South Queensferry, and Glasgow, in Eurocentral. We have now expanded into prime city centre locations in Glasgow, Leeds, and Manchester, with Newcastle coming in 2025 and more in our pipeline. Dakota is synonymous for delivering attentive and genuine guest service.     Happy Monday from the team at Dakota Hotels ✨ We've spent the weekend admiring our new addition to the team - our shiny The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2024 award. It's been a few weeks since we learned that we were named a Top 10 Big Organisation and the Best Employer for LGBTQIA+ employees but we are still just as excited!     ✨ Dream Roles at Dakota - a work placement to last a lifetime✨ At Dakota, we believe in the power of community and collaboration. Our strong relationships with local colleges are at the heart of our mission to nurture talent and provide meaningful opportunities for students to gain real-world experience. 🎓✨ Not only does this help to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical application, preparing students for successful careers; students bring new ideas and energy that drive innovation within our team. Their fresh perspectives help us stay ahead in a constantly evolving industry. We are proud to share the inspiring journey of Aliyah, a remarkable individual who joined us on a work placement from Leeds City College and is now a valued team member. Aliyah joined us in Dakota Leeds in December 2023 (just in time for our busy Christmas period!) for two weeks as a work experience student as part of the Level 3 Patisserie course she is studying at the college. Following the completion of her work experience, her hard work didn't go unnoticed and Aliyah was then offered a Commis Chef position. She now can run the pastry section on her own, and has blended seamlessly into the team. On her time at Dakota so far, Aliyah said, "The kitchen mentors provide excellent support whenever needed, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I look forward to continuing my development with Dakota." We're excited to continue working with local educational institutions to create more success stories like Aliyah's, and next time you visit Dakota Leeds, make sure you try the Dark Chocolate Orange Sponge, it's her favourite! 🎂 ✨ #LifeAtDakota

    ✨ Celebrating Another Year of School Partnerships with Hospitality Connects! ✨ As term time draws to an end, we are thrilled to mark another incredible year of our ongoing school partnerships through the Hospitality Connects programme. This initiative has been instrumental in fostering a love for the hospitality industry among students, providing them with invaluable insights and hands-on experiences that pave the way for future careers. Our collaborations with schools across the country like The Kingsway School in Cheadle, Manchester, St Mungoes Academy in Glasgow, and Queensferry High School in Edinburgh have enabled us to reach hundreds of young minds, sparking their interest in the diverse opportunities within hospitality. Through workshops, hotel visits and careers events, we’ve been able to share the excitement and passion that drives our industry. The Hospitality Connects programme is designed not only to educate but also to empower. By engaging students in real-world scenarios and practical activities, we help them build essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. These experiences boost their confidence and prepare them for future success. ✏ As we celebrate another year of achievements, we are excited about the future of Hospitality Connects.     ✨Dakota Career Spotlight - How to Excel (and we don't just mean spreadsheets!) ✨ Careers in hospitality can be perfectly summed up when looking at the success of our Payroll Supervisor, Kim Goodsir. Kim joined our team in April 2015, starting her journey as a Bar Assistant at our Edinburgh hotel. With a passion for hospitality and a dedication to providing excellent service, she quickly made her mark. Recognising her potential, Kim transitioned to the Reception team, where she excelled and steadily worked her way up the ranks. Her commitment to professional development was evident as she completed both a Front of House and a Supervisory Modern Apprenticeship. These achievements not only honed her skills but also prepared her for more significant responsibilities within Dakota. In 2022, Kim took on a new challenge and relocated to Eurocentral, where she assumed the role of Reception Manager. Her leadership and organisational abilities shone through, and in 2023, looking for a new challenge, Kim returned to Edinburgh, to undertake a role in our Payroll team, where her meticulous nature and attention to detail made her an ideal fit. Still passionate about service, she is now delivering great experiences for our team, and even supports as a Duty Manager from time to time! Kim’s commitment to excellence has been further demonstrated by her recent accomplishment: obtaining her Payroll Technician qualification from the The Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP). Kim’s journey from a Bar Assistant to Payroll Supervisor is a remarkable story of growth, dedication, and continuous learning. She found her place at Dakota, and through the years has embodied our value of "Be Your Best Self". We look forward to seeing her continue to excel, not just in spreadsheets, and grow with Dakota. Kim's story is a reminder that your path doesn't need to end up where it started, once you find your Home Away from Home, the options are endless ✨

    Summer at Dakota means one thing, our industry recognised "Learn More, Earn More" programme ✨ As part of our Dakota Academy Bullet Train suite, Learn More, Earn More is currently running in its 10th year, and sees our food and beverage team members undertake a fast-tracked development programme. Each year, the cohort attend training session, undertake cross-training and attend field trips. So far this summer, our team have had a training masterclass with our Head of Learning & Development, Katie Forrest Chartered MCIPD; visited our suppliers Delifresh ltd and Campbells Prime Meat Limited; and spent some time on the other side of the pass with our kitchen teams! Throughout the years, Learn More, Earn More has had many a success story, and with much more to look forward this summer, we can't wait to see how this cohort progresses in their careers! ✨ #LifeAtDakota

    ✨ An inspiring night at The Caterer Cateys 2024✨ Our Samantha Hamilton-Green MBA FCIPD MCMI and Jasmine Brash MCIPD were lucky enough to attend The Cateys last night at JW Marriott Grosvenor House London 🥂 These awards are always a pleasure to attend, celebrating the success of our industry and enjoying fantastic hospitality. It's hard not to be inspired by those around you. Last night, we were particularly delighted to see Chris Mitchell and Robbie Laidlaw celebrated for their unbelievable achievement, Spirit of Hospitality in aid of our Charity of the Year, Hospitality Action. To have dedicated their time to complete the World's Toughest Row across the Atlantic (in December?!) whilst raising essential funds for the wonderful work of the charity, has left us reeling with inspiration. Thank you and congratulations to you both for such a well deserved achievement and contribution to our colleagues across hospitality.
