CORE POWER is building scalable new nuclear technologies for ocean transport and heavy industry.
About us
CORE POWER is building scalable new nuclear technologies for ocean transport and heavy industry. In partnership with leading international corporations, CORE POWER will deliver durable zero-emission energy from Floating Nuclear Power Plants (FNPP) and nuclear-powered ships. Over the next few decades as many as 60,000 ships must transition from combustion of fossil fuels to zero-emission propulsion. The UN’s maritime agency IMO has mandated with unanimous approval from 197 countries that shipping must reduce emissions by 50% of the 2008 total, before 2050. This means an actual emission reduction of almost 90%, by 2050. With new nuclear technologies now being developed, shipping can achieve that goal, by producing green sustainable fuels for the smaller ships and powering the largest ships directly. Zero emissions will come as standard. New nuclear for maritime can have an economic potential which is greater than that of oil and gas today. It can provide all the sustainable, clean energy we need to move us deep into the future without polluting the environment.

Join me in Hamburg on Sept 5th at #SMM to discuss the importance of New Nuclear for the Maritime industry. Without nuclear energy, achieving net-zero emissions is impossible as all fossil fuels and proposed alternatives emit exhaust gases. Traditional nuclear power plants have focused on large-scale construction, but there is a more efficient approach. Floating nuclear power, proven safe by naval reactors since the 1950s, offers a viable solution. However, commercial insurance limitations have hindered its use in ports. Introducing a NEW nuclear solution for the marine sector is critical. By enabling the commercial insurance of safe floating nuclear power, we can establish permanently moored installations in ports and nuclear-powered ships on a large scale. This breakthrough opens up a vast global market for accessible and scalable nuclear energy. Learn more about this innovative solution and join the discussion: https://lnkd.in/ePnYS-p8

Have you ever heard this saying: “Without maritime shipping, half of the world would starve, and the other one would freeze” ? ➡️ 🚢 Maritime shipping is 95% of global trade in volume and 90% in value. Connecting people through markets, it is a condition of human prosperity and collaboration, ➡️ 🚢 Maritime shipping is also 3% of world CO2 emissions and nearly 20% of ocean pollution (80% is land-based) ⚠️ Maritime (add fishing and passenger to shipping) needs to be one of the 1st sector to benefit from the transition to ⚛️ energy. 🎧 Listen to this (very) interesting (and short!) podcast from the Lloyd's List featuring Mikal Bøe, CEO of CORE POWER (UK) Ltd , Matthieu de Tugny, president Marine and Offshore Bureau Veritas Group, and myself from Les Voix du Nucléaire - Voices of Nuclear explaining how and why. 🫵 Wether you are from the ⚛️ ecosystem or from the 🚢 world, your endless conversation starts now.
There is a growing body of opinion across shipping that is routinely referring to nuclear, alongside carbon capture technology, as the only real options on the table that will allow shipping to fully decarbonise by 2050. Has the previously fringe option of nuclear-powered ships become sufficiently mainstream for the industry to consider leapfrogging ammonia and hydrogen as a more pragmatic solution? This week on the Lloyd’s List podcast we are going to the atomic heart of the matter and exploring shipping’s nuclear option. Joining Lloyd's List editor in chief Richard Meade are: Myrto TRIPATHI, chief executive of the NGO Voices of Nuclear Mikal Bøe, chairman and chief executive of Core Power Matthieu de Tugny, president, Bureau Veritas | Marine & Offshore https://lnkd.in/ezUqxWhM

LR nuclear experts Mark Tipping and Jez Sims participated in the New Nuclear for Maritime London Summit yesterday, hosted yesterday CORE POWER (UK) Ltd. Commenting that security, regulation as well as technology all need to move forward together to deliver nuclear as an alternative form of propulsion to maritime, Mark said: “We need to talk about the real challenges and collaborate to overcome them.” Jez gave a regulatory perspective and, acknowledging that current IMO regulations have not been updated since 1981, said he sees a collective opportunity to lead in “harmonising nuclear and maritime regulations to ensure a unified approach to safety, security, and environmental protection.” #Nuclear #Maritime #EnergyTransition #Regulation
