Releasing children from poverty in Jesus' name.
About us
Founded in 1952, Compassion is a Christian child development charity releasing children from poverty, in Jesus’ name. Working in 29 countries, we partner with more than 8,500 local churches within communities experiencing poverty. Our heart is to give children and young people the opportunity to thrive and reach their God-given potential both now and into the future. We’re Christ-centred, motivated by Jesus’ call to love our neighbour. We're child-focused, helping those left most vulnerable to the effects of poverty. And we’re church-driven, running our programmes exclusively in partnership with local churches. Compassion’s child development programmes are holistic, giving children support in every core area of their lives. Because we work in partnership with local churches who know their communities inside out, our programmes are tailored to a child’s age, gender, health, culture and family situation. Independent research shows they are highly effective, and now more than 2.3 million children globally are being released from poverty. Learn more about what we do at: https://www.compassionuk.org

Last Friday, Keep The Faith magazine - UK's Black and multi-ethnic Christian community focused publication released an article which discussed Compassion UK's recent action towards urging the UK's political leaders to publicly commit to child-focused policies. Jonathan Prosser, Director of our Innovation Lab, made a personal appeal to the party leaders, asking directly for a fundamental shift in policy formulation to become a child-centred nation. We recently had the pleasure of attending the Further Faster Network's one-day conference! A total of 92 churches and 380 church leaders gathered together for a powerful day of discussions on how to grow their congregations by reaching unchurched people. One of the key topics addressed were the challenges faced by church leadership. Compassion UK's Head of Partnerships North, James Spencer, was in attendance and shares his insights. "It was so good to hear Andy Stanley’s simple yet profound call for the church to ‘go’. He emphasised the difference between knowing and going, urging churches to be first of all Christlike, but also outward facing. Andy outlined the characteristics of an outward facing church in a super practical way," James says. We're so encouraged to see church leaders leave the conference feeling inspired and equipped with new ideas and practical tools to take back to their ministries! Video credit: Matt Banks

What does it mean to be a Child-Centred Nation? Our Innovation Lab Director, Jonathan Prosser, recently explored this crucial question in an article for The RSA (The royal society for arts, manufactures and commerce). He outlines how governments and world leaders can practically work towards truly becoming Child-Centred Nations. 📝 This week, Jonathan wrote to the nine leaders of the UK's main political parties, including the current Prime Minister, urging them to prioritise child-focused policies that would not only foster domestic growth and wellbeing but also serve as a world-leading asset in foreign policy and diplomacy, delivering transformational outcomes for children. Please join us in prayer that these letters will speak to the hearts of our political leaders. 🙏 In Jonathan's article, he draws on insights from global experts, identifying 10 thematic priorities to turn this vision into reality. How does the climate crisis impact people living in poverty? Children who live in poverty are disproportionally impacted by climate change. “Almost every child on earth is exposed to at least one climate and environmental hazard, shock or stress such as heatwaves, cyclones, air pollution, flooding and water scarcity,” UNICEF. We want to join others in combatting this threat. For Great Big Green Week, Compassion’s Vice President for Africa, Palamanga Ouali, shares the startling implications that climate change has on those living in poverty, and how Compassion's local church partners are improving futures for people in rural communities. 👉 https://bit.ly/4aYIweX #GreatBigGreenWeek #climatechange #climateaction

Exciting news! 🎉 The United Nations General Assembly has announced that June 11th is the first ever International Day of Play! This day recognises the importance of play in promoting education, development, and the well being of children around the world. In fact, play is a fundamental human right, according to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. It builds resilience, instils confidence and helps children develop. At Compassion UK, our projects around the world offer safe spaces for children to play and reach their full potential. We're showing our support alongside global organisations and companies, to raise awareness about the significance of play. Visit our blog to see how Compassion projects foster a safe and happy environment for children to play. https://bit.ly/3VhDDIb

As we conclude our 'Love Goes Together' series with TBN UK and Andy Hutchinson, we turn our focus to the Great Collaboration. What does this mean? God has called us to Himself as individuals, but he also calls us together as a body, a family to work together. Christianity thrives on relationships and community. Ephesians 4:1-6 reminds us that unity in the Church doesn't mean uniformity. We are one body with one mission, yet we bring diverse perspectives and gifts. We have more in common as Christians than we think, don’t we? One body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all. But this doesn’t mean we agree on everything! It means working through things together as family. Scripture is filled with advice on how to do this – patiently bearing with each other must mean that there will be times when we need patience! Sometimes we need to work hard on this to remain as one body. In a world of diverse opinions, our shared mission remains clear: to love, support, and uplift each other. As we face today’s challenges, let’s remember the strength we have in community. God never promised life would be easy, but He did promise we wouldn't be alone. Thank you so much for following along this series, and a shout out to Compassion's Andy Hutchinson's words of wisdom! Catch the final episode here https://bit.ly/4dT6gDR
