Oftsed has judged National Construction College (NCC) as showing ’significant progress’ in areas that had been marked as requiring improvement. Kirsty Evans, Executive Principal for NCC and CITB Apprenticeships Scotland said: “I am pleased Ofsted can see the transformation at NCC. This outcome is testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team. "I would like to thank every one of them for working so hard and achieving so much over the past year. Our focus now is to build on these improvements for the benefit of our apprentices, our employers and the sector.” The transformation is already having a positive impact on learners – learner retention rates have increased to over 80%, with qualification achievement rates already significantly above the sector average. CITB, in response to the proposed Growth and Skills Levy announced in the King’s Speech, has said it is ready to work with the government, industry, and training providers to ensure sustained growth in construction. “Key to achieving the government’s housebuilding targets is to get the right skills policies in place. It is essential the new Growth and Skills Levy drives up construction apprenticeship numbers that have declined under the Apprenticeship Levy," said Tim Balcon, CITB CEO. “We simply do not have enough workers in the construction industry right now – in 2023 there was a net loss of 10,000 construction workers. Our research shows that under Labour’s housebuilding plans, up to an additional 152,000 workers will need to be found. “Last year CITB helped over 29,000 apprentices during their courses. We’re ready to work with government, industry, and training providers to ensure the coordinated reforms are put in place to drive sustained growth in the construction industry.” #KingsSpeech #construction #apprenticeships #growth #skills #workers
