📚🚀 #PaperFriday 🚀📚 New working paper by our #CoDE member, SL Thomas Fackler, together with colleagues Oliver Falck, Moritz Goldbeck, Fabian Hans, Annina Hering Title: The Greener, the Higher: Labor Demand of Automotive Firms during the Green Transformation   Green automotive firms' labour demand is higher. This is shown in a new study which combines patent data with real-time online job postings data from Indeed. Thus there is no evidence of a trade-off between employment and climate goals. Instead the results suggest that many companies try to maximise short-term profits, exploiting the still high profitability of combustion technology for as long as possible while saving on investments in the green transformation without any positive effects on labour demand. The long-term survival of a globally competitive auto industry providing good jobs in Germany can only be achieved with competitive electric cars. Companies that rely on green technology have significantly higher labour demand in all job categories and are shifting their recruitment focus from traditional mechanical engineering occupations to IT and production.   Link to the study: https://lnkd.in/gCRQ9CNX Link to the summary: https://lnkd.in/g95CCAEf

📚🚀 #PaperFriday 🚀📚 We're excited to share the latest publication by Prof. Annabelle Gawer and Carla Bonina, PhD: "Digital platforms and development: Risks to competition and their regulatory implications in developing countries". This insightful article delves into the dual role of digital platforms in driving sustainable development while highlighting specific risks for developing countries. Leveraging a World Bank global database of antitrust actions and secondary data, the study addresses critical questions: 1️⃣ Which types of anticompetitive agreements and abuse of dominance practices are linked to various platform types? 2️⃣ For mergers, what characteristics of the acquiring platform triggered antitrust investigations, and what actions did enforcement authorities take? Key findings reveal that transaction and hybrid platforms present distinct competitive concerns, prompting varied responses from enforcement authorities.
