The Future of Manufacturing 🏭 This morning local leaders from manufacturing came together to talk about the future of the workforce for the sector. A big thank you to our generous hosts British Sugar. Guests heard from Colin Lindsay PhD, MCIPD, FRSA from InterAct about the research they have conducted into the way manufacturing is viewed by the public. Highlighting some of the stigma and misconceptions but also showcasing areas for improvement to encourage people into the workforce. There was then an open roundtable discussion where businesses delved into some of the issues and barriers they have to finding the right people and skills. It was great to hear the various views at the table, some of what we heard was: 🎒 The need to engage with young people 🗣 Soft skills, attitude and enthusiasm 👩🏫 Teachers/tutors leaving the profession 💷 Challenges accessing the apprenticeship levy And much more... To conclude the session guests heard from Fiona M. from Enginuity about how manufacturers can start to tackle problems around attracting and engaging with younger generations. This included involvement with students of all ages and the use of social media platforms such as TikTok. A special shoutout to George who has joined the Chamber on work experience for the week. He engaged in the roundtable discussion and shared some valuable insights from the perspective of young people. Thank you to everyone who attended for enabling thought-provoking and forward-thinking conversation. #chambernetwork #cambschamber #lsip #ukmfg #gbmfg #ukmanufacturing
