🔔 Today Basecamp Research announced #BaseFold, a breakthrough in predicting the 3D structures of large, complex proteins. We show that we can better predict the way proteins behave — not with better algorithms, but with higher-quality data. 🌎 By leveraging our purpose-built, foundational dataset of global #biodiversity, we improve the accuracy of AlphaFold2 structures by up to 6X, and the accuracy of small molecule docking by up to 3X. 🚀 BaseFold marks another significant step forward in #AI-based #drugdevelopment, offering more reliable predictions for therapeutic targets and drug interactions. 📖 Read our full announcement: https://lnkd.in/enPke4ri And preprint here: https://lnkd.in/ersMs4NV 🖊️ Sifted wrote "How this UK startup improved DeepMind’s AlphaFold 6x": https://lnkd.in/e2NABB9N 🗞️ Forbes wrote "This startup says it can beat DeepMind’s game-changing protein AI": https://lnkd.in/e8w69pD7 #AI #Innovation #DrugDiscovery #AlphaFold #Biotechnology

About us
Basecamp Research is a market leader in mapping biodiversity for AI-based design of biological systems. We match and refine novel proteins for our partners' exact industrial, therapeutic or diagnostic applications using BaseGraph™, a new generation of AI design that is powered by the first-ever high-resolution map of global genetic biodiversity. Understanding the full genetic, evolutionary, and environmental context of each protein allows Basecamp Research to design tailored proteins for specific applications without the need for expensive and time-consuming directed evolution campaigns. We're a team of explorers, scientists and policy experts driven by our ambition to protect and learn from nature's diversity, whilst delivering life-changing breakthroughs to those who need them most.

Thanks to the team at STAT for sharing our work on their podcast (~03:40 https://bit.ly/3Y1O3OS). They talk about how Basecamp Research samples from volcanoes, the bottom of the ocean and Antarctica and beyond to "fill out the space of protein sequences and genetic diversity that we don't have on public databases." All ultimately to better train AI for drug discovery. #drugdesign #COP16 #biotechinnovation

SeaVoice's best-of collection The Annual features an article by Basecamp Research team members Emma Bolton and Nadine Greenhalgh about our discovery dive plan that connects biotech researchers around the world and biodiversity communities – with a little AI help along the way. 🌊 The Annual features 23 authors from 16 countries telling stories from frontiers where the ocean, science and culture intersect. All of this is set against breathtaking ocean photography and bound in a zero-waste cover made from seaweed. Basecamp Research has pioneered a partnership model that benefits both innovative companies and the communities contributing to expanding our biological knowledge (watch our video: https://lnkd.in/gPPc7Dkx). This win-win approach allows companies to use AI trained on a larger, more diverse data set with the consent and benefit of these communities. The video (link above) showcases our partnership in Costa Rica with CENIBiot CeNAT-CONARE, recognised with the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) Certification by The National Commission for Biodiversity for its outstanding conservation and responsible business practices. And this is just one Basecamp Research partner example. Our partnership model became more even relevant this week when the UN announced its plans for COP 16 in Colombia. It will negotiate to add to the convention framework a requirement for pharmaceutical and cosmetics companies to obtain community consent and pay benefits for the data used in AI models for drug discovery and product development. The UN says it's seeking "to share fairly some of the multi-trillion-dollar revenues and other benefits derived from products produced, improved or related to the use of 'digital sequence information on genetic resources' such as the DNA sequences of plants, animals and microbes." #COP16 #UNEP #BioAI

Chairman/Founder/CEO @ Eularis | AI Pharma Expert, Keynote Speaker | Our pharma clients achieve measurable exponential growth in efficiency and revenue from leveraging AI
🎙️ Our latest podcast episode featuring an in-depth conversation with @Philipp Lorenz, the CTO of @Basecamp Research. In this episode, we delved into the world of foundational data sets for biological AI and the groundbreaking work being done by Basecamp Research. Here are three key takeaways from our enlightening discussion: 🌏 Diversity and Context Matter: The importance of diversity and context in biological data sets cannot be overstated. Basecamp Research has recognized the limitations of current public data sets and has taken a proactive approach to address this issue. By collecting diverse biological sequence data from nature parks across five continents, including unique metadata, Basecamp Research has built a knowledge graph with over six billion relationships. This approach not only enhances the accuracy of AI models but also provides a comprehensive understanding of the biological world. In fact, their data provides accuracy of SIX times Alphafold2! 🖥 Ethical Data Collection and Sharing: Basecamp Research's commitment to ethical data collection and sharing sets a new standard in the industry. By engaging with biodiversity stakeholders, obtaining consent, and entering into benefit-sharing agreements, Basecamp Research ensures that the value generated from the data is shared with those who have contributed to its collection. This ethical approach not only fosters trust but also highlights the importance of responsible data practices in the field of biology. ⚕ Future Innovations and Collaborations: The potential for future developments and collaborations in the field of biology is vast. Basecamp Research's expansive data set opens up opportunities for innovative research and applications, particularly in areas such as gene editing, therapeutics, and biocatalysis. If you are interested in learning more about the cutting-edge work being done by Basecamp Research and the impact of foundational data sets on biological AI, I highly recommend listening to the full podcast episode. You can find the episode, episode 114, of the AI for Pharma Growth Podcast, on both Apple or Spotify podcasts. https://lnkd.in/dQUDXHjG 🌿 Let's continue to explore 🔦 the frontiers of biological AI and innovation together! 🌿💻 #BiologicalAI #Innovation #Drugdiscovery
