Airfinity was invited to give an exclusive briefing at The White House on the rising threat of infectious disease outbreaks. Speaking to Dr. Paul Friedrichs and members of the Office for Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy and the National Security Council, The White House, CEO Rasmus Bech Hansen and VP of Biorisk Michelle Holko presented our latest analysis on the most imminent threats to the United States, including the detection of avian #influenza in US mammalian livestock, the impact of reduced #vaccine uptake on #measles cases, and #mpox clade IIb and clade I outbreaks. Airfinity uses AI-augmented simulations and forecasts to enable better risk assessment and earlier warning systems that support health, security, and defense goals for multiple G7 governments. The #COVID inquiry report has been published. Airfinity’s founder and CEO Rasmus Bech Hansen says, “I welcome Baroness Hallett’s recommendations. Airfinity is proud of the role it played throughout the pandemic supporting numerous governments, including the UK, with independent and unbiased analysis on the large volume of data surrounding the crisis. I am pleased to see the recommendations for better data collection and risk assessments, and its importance in preparing for future pandemics. As a pioneer of disease forecasting, Airfinity is uniquely positioned to support preparedness planning and outbreak response with independent risk frameworks on emerging threats, disease dynamics, countermeasure impact modelling and policy development. As experts outside of government we act as a truster partner to deliver data driven insights to help inform decisions, and also challenge them, to improve policy and ultimately save lives.” #covidinquiry

14.5 million kids have missed essential childhood vaccinations for #diphtheria, #tetanus and #whooping cough, according to new data from the United Nations. It says a rise in global conflicts has left more children out of critical vaccination drives as war hindered the supply of life-saving shots. The data also suggested that vaccination rates against #measles stalled, leaving nearly 35 million children with no or only partial protection. The UN report follows exclusive Airfinity and Bloomberg News analysis which revealed the scale of a global surge in infectious diseases, with over 40 countries reporting outbreaks 10-fold over pre-pandemic levels. To read more on this study and the factors driving outbreaks, go to our website. https://lnkd.in/eMb8bjvK

The  #measles outbreak in the UK has peaked with confirmed cases now falling. The UKHSA has released preliminary data showing cases plateauing in April and May, and declining in June. England has recorded over 2,000 cases since the outbreak began in October 2023. This trend aligns with global cases falling. New data from the WHO reveals a 60% drop in cases from January to April, however the findings could be impacted by a reporting lag. Why are we seeing outbreaks quell and what roll have public health campaigns played in boosting vaccine uptake. If you would like to learn more , reach out to infectiousdiseases@airfinity.com

Japan is seeing the largest outbreak on record of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS). It's a bacterial infection which can cause necrotising fasciitis, also known as the "flesh-eating disease", that can happen if a wound gets infected. 1,100 cases have been reported in the first half of this year, more than the total number of cases in 2023. Airfinity forecasts the outbreak has likely peaked or soon will, but 1,000 more cases are expected over the next six months. What areas of Japan have the most cases, how does the outbreak compare to other countries and what are the approved medical counter measures? A new more severe #mpox strain is spreading rapidly in the DRC, with concerns about the speed at which it might reach other countries. This new strain, mpox clade Ib, is believed to spread through non-sexual contact, making it more dangerous and transmissible than previous illnesses. With the #Euros2024 well underway, and the upcoming #ParisOlympics there are concerns of increased spread through the high volume of international travellers and large crowds. Our analysis shows Spanish football fans are most likely to spread mpox (clade IIb) during the euros. Reach out to infectiousdiseases@airfinity.com to learn more about mpox risk at these global events.

Has the #pandemic somehow fundamentally changed us or the pathogens which surround us? That’s the question which has been sparked by Airfinity’s recent analysis on the scale of disease outbreaking resurging around the world. Our study shows over 40 countries or territories have reported at least one #infectious #disease resurgence that’s 10-fold or more over their pre-pandemic baseline. The Telegraph examine whether poverty and international conflict could be behind the outbreaks as well as vaccinations, immunity debt and climate change. Read the article below or visit our website to find out more. https://lnkd.in/ekTSnTSQ

Is avian influenza becoming less deadly and does it mean less risk? New analysis shows that case fatality rate (CFR) has dropped to a 33% average over the last 9 years, from 62% pre-2015. While this may appear to be a positive development, a lower CFR typically signifies a better adapted #virus to a host. If this trend continues, it may signal #H5N1 becoming more suited for sustaining human-human infection. To learn more about the pandemic potential of H5N1, please get in touch via infectiousdiseases@airfinity.com

More than 40 countries or territories have reported at least one #infectiousdisease resurgence that’s 10-fold or more over their pre-pandemic baseline. Airfinity and Bloomberg News have collaborated to analyse the global #data on #disease outbreaks, to better understand the scale of the issue and what's really driving it. We have identified three main factors contributing to these resurgences: falling #vaccination rates, overall decline in population #immunity and #climatechange. To see the full analysis, and explore our new interactive spike map showing the largest outbreaks across the globe, read the below article or visit our website here: https://lnkd.in/eMb8bjvK
