The government has said they want to boost medical research by making it easier for companies to access NHS data in this piece in the The Times: https://lnkd.in/ebusvs5f Access to anonymised health data is vital for the development of new effective medicines and treatments which improve patients’ lives. The ABPI is leading a dialogue with system partners to define the requirements of a functional health data research service that both safeguards patient confidentiality and truly realise the benefits of patient data to improve health outcomes, stimulate inward investment and return funding back into the NHS. Brilliant to see this new research initiative from AstraZeneca, The Scottish Government, University of Glasgow, and University of Dundee. This will not only look for new ways to treat kidney disease, it will also attract investment to Scotland's vibrant life sciences sector. 🔬
Lifesciences leader creating new possibilities for people, teams, systems and communities. President of AstraZeneca UK.
Investment in clinical trials is critical to our future health infrastructure. I am thrilled to share our latest collaboration with The Scottish Government, University of Glasgow, and University of Dundee, leading to the launch of a pioneering new partnership for Innovation in Kidney Health. Together we will accelerate research into new medicines for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and building infrastructure to support future clinical trials. I am immensely proud of our colleagues and external partners who have contributed to this milestone. CKD is an urgent health challenge. There are 3.5m people living with CKD in the UK and the numbers are growing whilst a third remain undiagnosed. By 2040, kidney disease will be the fifth biggest killer worldwide. Together we have a stronger chance fighting this disease and empower people to live longer, healthier lives. This is a testament to the power of collaboration and is demonstration of delivery against the recent 'Triple Helix Roundtable on Game Changing Technologies for the NHS in Scotland'. We’re pleased to have contributed to this new report from FSB Westminster (Federation of Small Businesses) which will help shape the future of international trade and great to see the new government making trade a priority across all departments.
💱 Our SME Export Taskforce is out today! 💱 Commissioned by the Labour Party (UK), this paper features valuable insights from various trade associations and major firms. With only 10% of SMEs currently exporting, the need for action is clear. So, what can we do to encourage more small firms to export? Our paper found five clear missions: ✈️ Trade needs to be a priority across all Government departments. 🚢 Small firms need transparency when it comes to exporting. 🚂 Make paperless transactions the norm across the whole supply chain. 🚚 Give small firms strong support from their first day of trading. 💲 Access to trade finance should be easier.
