NEW DELHI: Salem is one of the 39 parliamentary constituenies in Tamil Nadu. It encompasses six legislative assembly seats: Omalur, Edappadi, Salem West, Salem North, Salem South, and Veerapandi.

Salem went to polling in the first phase on April 19. Having over 16.5 lakhs registered voters, it recorded a voter turnout of 78.16%, as per the ECI data.
DMK's Selvaganapathi TM won against AIADMK's Vignesh P with vote margin of 4,95,728.

Previous election results:
In the 2019 elections, DMK candidate SR Parthiban emerged victorious, securing 606,302 votes. KRS Saravanan of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) was the runner-up with 459,376 votes.

In the 2014 elections, AIADMK candidate V. Pannerselvam claimed victory with 556,546 votes. DMK candidate S. Umarani secured the second position with 288,936 votes.
Vote share of major political parties in previous Lok Sabha elections:
In the 2019 general elections for the Salem constituency, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) secured 48.29% of the votes, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) obtained 36.59% of the votes.
In the 2014 general elections, the AIADMK led with 48.38% of the votes, followed by the DMK with 25.12% of the votes. The INC secured 4.04% of the votes, and the DMDK obtained 17.50% of the votes.
