Table fat spreads used as butter in roadside eateries
Vadodara: Food safety officials of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) carried out checking at the eateries in the Ratri Bazaar near VUDA Circle and the street food vendors opposite Sayajibaug.
The checking was directed at ensuring that the outlets here clearly mentioned the ingredients particularly the cooking medium they were using.
The drive was conducted on Monday in the wake of the recent guidelines that make it compulsory for vendors to declare the ingredients of the dishes prepared by them.
During the drive, it came to light that several vendors were using replacements for butter and other food items, but did not declare them.
Kamatibaug and Ratri Bazaar were selected for the drive as both these places have multiple eateries at the same place. The checking of vendors opposite Kamatibaug revealed that they were using table spreads or fat spreads in place of butter. However, their menus mentioned butter as the ingredient. They were asked to stay away from such acts. Sources said that the officials will continue to check the outlets and give necessary instructions.
From next week, the officials will start taking action against those outlets that have been given necessary instructions but do not stick to the norms. TNN
