Nagpur: Relatives of Mohd Atif and Mohd Hussain are livid with the way in which Ritika Maloo continues to walk free despite killing two youths more than four months ago.
On Monday, when Maloo — who was supposed to be physically present in the court — did not turn up violating the court’s notice served on her, the victims’ relatives were left furious.
Ateef’s elder brother Mohd Atik said, “When powerful politicians, famous actors and celebrities who wield enormous clout are not spared from being incarcerated, how can someone causing the death of two youngsters easily roam free? Is she that powerful? This is a case fit case for throwing Maloo behind bars,” he said.
“We have withdrawn the revision plea before a higher court to ensure there are no more hurdles between Ritika Maloo and jail. In the case Pradeep Ram vs State, the guidelines are clear that JMFC permission is not required in case graver sections are added in the FIR,” he said.
Zeeshan Siddiqui, who is supporting the aggrieved families, alleged that Maloo is not being treated as an accused at all. “Cops brought the van to the court's canopy instead of making her walk from outside. A senior counsel is ensuring that the road was clear when she came.”
Siddiqui asked why the cops are dilly dallying in booking Maloo family members for obstructing govt officials from discharging official work.
“The police mentioned in the court that Maloo family members charged at the woman constable when she went to serve her notice. If a common man obstructs a govt official, he is immediately booked and arrested. In case of a woman official, Section 354 for molestation is also applied. Yet, the cops haven’t filed an FIR against the Maloo family members,” he said.
Siddiqui added that the police role in the case is getting murkier. “The woman cop allegedly manhandled by Maloos had called up Senior PI Sandeep Buwa but he didn’t act. We have been harassed but we never behaved in such a way with the cops and will never do,” he said.
Hussain’s brother-in-law Shahbaz Khan and Atik called on the Maloo family to hand over Ritika to the cops. “The Maloo family must not sympathise with Ritika as she took two innocent lives. If she remains free, she will definitely commit more such crimes,” Khan said.
