Nagpur: Even as cloudbursts were reported from other parts of
Maharashtra, heavy rains lashed West Vidarbha districts of Buldhana, Akola, and Amravati on Monday leaving several areas under water and causing loss to agricultural fields.
Nagpur received a spell of intense rainfall towards the evening at several places. The brief spell of rains caused waterlogging on Amravati Road, Civil Lines and other areas.
Otherwise, the day was humid with sun showing up for a long duration.
Following a change in climatic conditions, regional meteorological centre officials have revised the forecast for Vidarbha, predicting heavy and very heavy rainfall for Nagpur and other places in the region on Tuesday and Wednesday. Orange and yellow alerts have been issued for Vidarbha districts. Nagpur has an yellow alert, and the weather department has predicted heavy rainfall in some areas.
A total of 90mm rainfall was recorded at Khamgaon, Shegaon, Motala talukas of Buldhana within a short span of time, triggering panic of a cloudburst. Water entered several fields and flooded roads across these talukas. A rainfall of 100mm within an hour is called cloudburst.
No casualty or loss to human life was reported, officials said. Akola recorded 71mm rainfall taking its 24hour tally to 121mm on Monday.
RMC officials said heavy rains were recorded in Yavatmal and Gadchiroli too.
