Mangaluru Police nab 4 from suspected ‘chaddi gang’ members within few hours of dacoity
MANGALURU: The Mangaluru City police with the assistance of Hassan police and KSRTC have arrested four persons from the suspected ‘Chaddi Gang’ in connection with the dacoity reported early Tuesday morning. The accused hailing from Madhya Pradesh are Raju Singwania, 24, from Guna; Mayur, 30, from Bhopal; Bali, 22, from Ashoknagar; and Vikki, 31, from Guna in Madhya Pradesh.

City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal said that the incident occurred at around 4 a.m. The four gang members, aged between 30 and 40 years, broke into the house of Victor Mendonsa in Kotekani, Derebail, by breaking a window grill of the bedroom. They assaulted Victor with an iron rod and his wife Petritia with a screwdriver, causing injuries. The accused threatened the couple and prevented them from shouting or calling for help. They destroyed three mobile phones by smashing them on the ground, accessed the cupboard locker, and stole gold and diamond jewelry worth Rs 12 lakh, one mobile phone, ten branded watches worth Rs 1 lakh, and Rs 3,000 in cash before fleeing in the couple’s car.
A case has been registered at Urva Police Station based on a complaint filed by Petritia Mendonsa under Sections 309(6), 331(7), 311, 305, and 3(5) of the BNS.
Commissioner Agrawal said that upon learning of the incident, the Urva police station inspector Bharati and her team visited the scene and provided the police Wireless room with details about the suspects and the stolen car. The car was later found abandoned near Mulki bus stand. Reviewing CCTV footage, they discovered that the suspects had traveled on a KSRTC bus towards Mangaluru.
The police contacted KSRTC officials and obtained information about buses arriving in Mangaluru. A KSRTC conductor of a bus that arrived from Bagalkot to Mangaluru said that four individuals had boarded a bus from Mulki and inquired about a bus to Bengaluru. Using this information, the police identified the bus traveling from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, contacted the driver, and informed the Hassan SP Mohammad Sujeetha, Sakleshpur DySP, and other officials. The police team managed to stop the bus at Hassan, and the four suspects were taken into custody. They confessed to the crime and handed over the stolen items to the Urva police.
The commissioner said that the accused were taken into custody within five hours of the incident coming to light.
