Sikkim Krantikari Morcha: All you need to know about SKM

NEW DELHI: The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), a significant political force in the Indian state of Sikkim, has been in power since 2019. The party, also referred to as the 'Sikkim Revolutionary Front' has made a notable impact on the state's political landscape.
Prem Singh Tamang currently serving as a member of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly. He is anticipated to assume the role of chief minister for a second consecutive term.
Prior to establishing the SKM, Tamang was affiliated with the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) and held a ministerial position in the state government.
However, his relationship with Pawan Kumar Chamling, the former chief minister of Sikkim and President of the SDF, turned sour in December 2009, leading Golay to become a strong opponent of Chamling's policies and leadership.
On February 4, 2013, driven by his political convictions, Golay founded the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha.
During the Sikkim legislative assembly elections on April 12, 2014, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) fielded candidates in all 32 constituencies, winning 10 seats and establishing itself as the second-largest party and the main opposition.
As the 2019 Indian Elections approached, SKM contemplated an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but ultimately chose to go solo.
Following the 2019 Sikkim legislative assembly elections, SKM joined the National Democratic Alliance on May 26, 2019, aligning with the BJP's leadership.
In the lead-up to the 2019 Indian Elections, SKM considered forming an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but ultimately decided to contest alone.
