Kolkata: Ever since East-West Metro’s Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section was commissioned on March 15, around 29 lakh passengers have used the new Metro line to travel to various stations of the existing North-South corridor till June 30, Metro Railway said in a statement on Friday.
“The figure signifies that the interchanging point at Esplanade has enabled commuters from the suburban areas to travel to any part of Kolkata comfortably,” a Metro spokesperson said.
“Imagine the respite all these passengers got in the oppressive heat,” he added. East-West Metro’s Howrah station is embedded in Howrah railway station through which Eastern and South-Eastern suburban and long-distance trains operate.
