BENGALURU: As many as 30 passengers had a narrow escape after a BMTC bus, operating on route 144E, caught fire at Anil Kumble Circle on Bengaluru's MG Road around 9am.

The fire was initially observed in the engine compartment. According to sources, engine overheating led to fire.
The incident occurred between 8.30am and 9am, involving bus number KA 57 F 1232.
The fire and emergency services control room received the complaint at 8.51am, promptly dispatching a single fire tender from the south station to extinguish the flames.
According to BMTC sources, while the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, the driver and conductor reported seeing smoke emanating from the engine first.
The conductor took immediate action, using the fire extinguisher on board to control the fire until the arrival of the fire tenders. The efforts to completely extinguish the fire lasted for a few minutes, and as of now, no casualties have been reported.
