The Grace of Collectors. With Second Life, we now support more than 1278 informal collectors dedicated to ocean plastic wastes collection, transport and recycling in Southern Thailand. They usually collect wastes on the beaches and in the community areas where they live, and deliver to our partners Wongpanit Krabi CO., LTD. & Ranong Recycle, who ensure the proper sorting and recycling of these wastes. Local infrastructures are deficient, local authorities and communities have limited resources and are too isolated, to ensure the proper collection, transport and recycling of an overwhelming & increasing amount of ocean plastic wastes pouring on their beaches. About 300 kg of wastes land per kilometer of beach per month during the Monsoon season on the Andaman Coast in Thailand according to some of our field evaluations. Despite these daunting stakes, it is always very humbling and inspiring to see how collectors remain hopeful and fully engaged in their mission. They are proud of their contribution to the Global effort, they believe they can make a change, thanks to their work, and even more as a collective, at community level, thanks to the project. They convey a message of contagious optimism. They hold a kind of Grace, that is very humbling and which is our main source of motivation at Second Life and with all our partners. Beyond Circularity, their vision and their care for nature and others, brings a message of hope and resilience. That's in our eyes maybe the strongest force and reason-to-be of our initiative. And maybe the greatest source of inspiration for us all to engage for Circularity. And beyond.. Jam Island, Krabi, Thailand Today, Ko Eiang and Phuyai Fai from Koh Jam delivered all the sorted ocean plastic waste to Laem Krot Pier. With our partner Wongpanit Krabi CO., LTD., we organized a vehicle and a team to pick up the waste at the pier and return it to our facility. The Second Life Project plays a crucial role in this process by providing resources and support to ensure efficient waste collection and recycling. By increasing the buying price of recyclable materials and offering a reliable market for these items, the project helps individuals like Ko Eiang and Phuyai Fai earn a sustainable income and support their families. Zoom on: Mr. Nuay and Ms Pon 👀 Today, meet one of the most famous couple among our collectors & aggregators in Koh Lanta: Mr. Nuay and Ms. Pon! 🥰 They have been members of Second Life project since our beginnin in 2021. They role as aggregators is essential because they help gathering wastes from more than 50 small collectors who are directly collecting around Lanta island. The beautiful couple is very dedicated to their mission: they deliver all collected material to Wongpanit Krabi Wongpanit Krabi CO., LTD. about 20 times every month! Without no doubt, they are a great help to coordinate everything and contribute significantly to our mission. Cheers to the Beach Cleanup Event from Kho Lanta, Krabi, Thailand! Date: July 10, 2024 Wongpanit Krabi Wongpanit Krabi CO., LTD. and Second Life Second Life joined forces with Koh Lanta Yai Subdistrict Administration, Pimalai Resort staff, Ban Klong Hin School teachers and students, and around 70 participants for a beach cleanup at Klong Hin Beach, Kho Lanta, Krabi. Second Life's members will sort the collected plastic and marine debris on Kho Lanta and then send it to Wongpanit Krabi for proper waste management. Our heartfelt thanks go out to each and every one of you who participated in making our beaches cleaner!
