China has expanded its 144-hour visa-free transit policy to three more entry ports, bringing the total number of ports to 37. The expanded policy allows citizens of 54 countries to explore more of China without a visa. Short journeys to the UNESCO-listed Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, the Shaolin Temple in Dengfeng and other historical gems are now more accessible for travellers. Citizens of 93 countries are now eligible to enter Thailand without a visa for stays of up to 60 days. Previously, nationals of 57 countries benefitted from visa-free conditions with the period of stay limited to less than 30 days. Asian Trails’ team recently took part in a community initiative to repair a dam on the Thai island of Samui.
