The engine on the Chang’e 6 lander kicks up dust as the spacecraft touches down on the Moon on June 2. Chang’e 6 landed in South Pole-Aitken Basin, on the lunar farside. It is scheduled to collect up to 4.4 pounds (two kilograms) of rocks and dirt in just a few days, then head back to Earth. If successful, it will be the first mission to return samples from the farside. China was the first nation to place a spacecraft on that side of the Moon, with the Chang’e 4 mission in 2019.
