SPSP Adds Margo Monteith to Heritage Wall, Celebrating Her Contributions to Personality and Social Psychology

 

The SPSP Fundraising and Development Committee is excited to announce that Margo Monteith is the newest addition to the Heritage Wall, celebrating her immense contributions to personality and social psychology through research, mentorship, and collaboration.

What’s Happening at APA? What SPSP Members Need To Know

 

Kimberly Barsamian Kahn, the Division 8 representative on the APA Council, shares key takeaways from the latest APA Council Meeting. The meeting focused on several important areas, including adopting a policy statement advocating for evidence-based care for transgender, gender diverse, and nonbinary people, calling for an end to the practice of involuntary individual isolation for incarcerated youth, and discussing strategies to combat the spread of misinformation.

White House Releases Blueprint on Incorporating Social and Behavioral Science in Federal Policymaking

 

On May 15, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy released a new resource that recommends actions for agencies across the federal government to effectively leverage social and behavioral science to improve policymaking. These recommendations include specific actions for agencies, such as considering social and behavioral insights early in policy or program development.

Planning is underway for the SPSP 2025 Annual Convention and now is the time to get involved! #SPSP2025 will take place February 20-22, 2025 in Denver, Colorado. This special event will mark the 25th anniversary of SPSP annual conventions. Start your preparations by learning more about the following opportunities:

 

Last Chance to Submit Preconference Applications

 

Today is the final day to submit an application to host a preconference at the Annual Convention! These topic-specific programs are often the highlights of the convention experience each year for meeting attendees. Preconference content is chosen and organized by the session organizers.

 

The application portal will close today at 11:59 PM PT, and selections are announced in July.

Shape the #SPSP2025 Agenda by Applying to Be a Peer Reviewer

 

SPSP's Annual Convention planning committee is seeking reviewers for several aspects of submissions, including posters, single-presenter talks, symposia, professional development workshops/sessions, and more. Serving as a peer reviewer gives you the opportunity to see all the emerging science in our field and help develop the Annual Convention agenda!

 

Current members who hold a doctoral degree are eligible to be a reviewer for all submission types. Current graduate student members are eligible to be a reviewer for the poster review process.

 

Applications will be accepted until June 20 at 11:59 PM PT!

SPSP Member Spotlight - Meltem Yucel

Member Spotlight: Meltem Yucel

Dr. Meltem Yucel is a postdoctoral fellow funded by the NIH (NRSA; F32) at Duke University's Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, working with Drs. Tamar Kushnir and Mike Tomasello. Her research seeks to explain how humans perceive rule violations, why they respond to rule violations, whether this changes with age, and how their interventions may serve evolutionary functions.
