Get Involved: Volunteer to Serve on SPSP Committees

 

The SPSP call for volunteers is now under way! Whether you are looking to make connections, gain insights into society operations or expand your service to the field, getting involved as an SPSP committee member is an excellent opportunity.

 

We are currently recruiting volunteers to serve on a variety of SPSP committees. Most committee terms begin April 1, 2024 and are a two or three-year commitment.

 

SPSP will accept committee volunteer applications until November 16.

New SPSP Advocacy Resource Illustrates How Psychology Can Inform Policy

 

SPSP is pleased to share State of the Research, a new report designed for those who want to leverage personality and social psychology research to address societal challenges.

 

Developed by the Advocacy Advisory Board with guidance from the Government Relations Committee, State of the Research offers concise summaries of personality and social psychology research findings that can inform practical policy solutions.

APA Releases New Edition of Inclusive Language Guide

 

APA has released the second edition of its Inclusive Language Guide, which aims to provide guidance on inclusive and affirming language in writing and conversation. The second edition includes new sections on body size and weight stigma, neurodiversity, gender-inclusive language related to pregnancy, and ableist language pervasive in everyday conversation.

 

The updated guide also includes expanded definitions and terminology based on the latest psychological science and constructive input from subject matter experts among APA's boards and committees, membership groups, and divisions, as well as the ethnic psychological associations.

Flourish - a network for pre-tenure faculty of color in personality and social psychology - is hosting a retreat immediately following SPSP, from Sunday, February 11 at 12 PM PST through Monday, February 12 at 12 PM PT. Our confirmed panelists this year are Serena Chen, Calvin Lai, Denise Sekaquaptewa, Rob Sellers, and Valerie Jones Taylor.

Sign-ups are now open for our Noember Free-Form Friday sessions, which include a meet up of the Disability Advocacy and Research Network (DARN) and a primer on community building and career development with the Early Career Committee.

 

Free-Form Fridays are small, virtual meeting rooms designed for and by SPSP members.
