Sana'a or Sanˤā' (Arabic: صنعاء, romanized as Ṣanʻāʼ or Sanaa), is the capital city of Yemen and the capital of Sana'a Governorate, but instead forms the separate governorate of ʾAmānat al-ʿĀṣimah (Arabic: أَمَانَة ٱلْعَاصِمَة). It had a population of 1,747,627 (as of 2004).

In the 2010s, it became a battlefield in the Civil War. The government moved to Aden as the city fell under control of the Houthi movement, on September 21, 2014.[1]
