Afro-Russians

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Afro-Russians are people in Russia whose family comes from Africa. The Metis Foundation thinks that there were about 30,000 Afro-Russians in 2013. Afro-Russians have existed since the 17th century, when enslaved Africans were brought to Russia. Most of these slaves were sold to nobility. However, slavery was never adopted in most of Russia. Instead, most Africans who entered Russia in the Tsarist period worked as serfs.[1]
