Job Description

Contributes to delivery of design engineering excellence through:

  • Driving technical engineering assurance on the assigned scope(s) of work.
  • Support Area Piping Engineer/Designer with the quality system, job requirements and schedule.
  • Support Area Piping Engineer/Designer updating piping engineering details and standards.
  • Driving safety by engineering design within the team.
  • Driving and leading on opportunities for innovation

May participate directly in the design engineering development in the engineering scope of the department.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities & Duties for Project Activity

A Piping Designer will normally be assigned to Project in any one of the following positions based on relevant experience

  • Piping Designer
  • Area Piping Designer

For the assigned Project, duties and responsibilities will include the following:

Piping Design

  • Executing the assigned design and drafting activities following the instructions given by the Area Lead Designer in accordance with the quality system in force within the Discipline, job requirements, and time schedule.
  • Keeping the Area Piping Engineer fully informed on the status of his activities.
  • Ensuring adequate flow of information within the Project Team.
  • Developing Plot plan and Equipment layouts under the supervision and following the instructions of Area Piping Engineer according to the established Technical Work Practices.
  • Developing 2D Piping General Arrangement Drawings under the supervision and following the instructions of Area Piping Engineer according to the established Technical Work Practices.
  • Carrying out site survey activities at field to develop 2D Piping general Arrangement Drawings, Tie-in/Disinvestment isometric drawings under the supervision and following the instructions of Area Piping Engineer according to the established Technical Work Practices.
  • Developing 3D model under the supervision and following the instructions of Area Piping Engineer according to the established Technical Work Practices.
  • Prepare Isometric sketches for all Stress critical lines with the possible support locations and assist the stress engineer to carry out stress analysis.
  • Provide inputs for Preliminary and Intermediate Material take-off and input the same to Material Management System and co-ordinate with Material Engineer for any update of the material requirements / changes within the area throughout the project.
  • Model supports (Physical / Logical) based on the Stress Comments for critical lines and non-critical lines according to the established Technical Practices.
  • Based on the Study Layouts / Model, provide Civil / Structural requirements to Civil / Structural section for all non-critical lines.
  • Resolve and co-ordinate all clashes within the piping discipline and other discipline.
  • Preparing comments on drawing and specification related to other discipline which may be affected by piping activities.
  • Assist, Remodel and Update the model based on the Internal, Client reviews, latest Supplier information and Isometric checking comments and maintain the clash free model.
  • Responsible for signing Piping General Arrangement and Isometric drawings (both in 2D and 3D design) under the “DESIGN or CHECKED” column as per the project role.
  • Providing "Feedback" to the Area Piping Engineer/Area Lead designer concerning problem arising from application of standard methods and work instruction.
  • Filing drawings and documents according to the instructions of Area Piping Engineer.
  • Updating the project specific 3D model progress tracker and isometric control database according to instructions of Area Piping Engineer.

Discipline Activities

Carry out other duties assigned by the Piping Discipline Head and in particular:

  • Assist when required in preparation of proposals and in presentations to prospective clients.
  • Carry out technical investigations, produce technical reports as and when required.
  • Support department related development / continuous improvement tasks.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with 2 to 10 years experience in Refinery / Petrochemical / Chemical / Power Plants / Pharmaceutical / LNG / Oil & Gas projects.

Knowledge, Skills And Experience

  • Through knowledge of Equipment layout Development, Piping layout design for all types of equipment such as Vessels, Exchangers, Tanks, Pumps, Compressors, Heaters, Columns, Reactors, Package Items etc. and Piping MTO.
  • Familiar and hands on experience with design and drafting tools like 3D PDS / PDMS, Smart Plant Review, MicroStation, AutoCAD, I sketch, MS Office Applications etc.
