The United States has a long history of leveraging sanctions to address international threats – and has been implementing them with greater frequency in recent years. As Ben Rayner, Silent Eight Global Head of Sales, shares with Financier Worldwide Magazine, the 21st Century Peace through Strength Act recently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives would ensure U.S. sanctions align with those posed by allies in the UK and EU, creating an international front against common threats. Ben also noted some of the challenges this act could pose, if enacted: “Sanctions increase compliance costs for businesses, and this Act even more so, particularly for smaller businesses and those with involvement in data brokerage and cyber security,” he shared. Increased sanctions increases the pressure on regulatory teams – making tools like #AI-enhanced compliance solutions even more valuable. A Tuesday afternoon certainly gets brighter when you receive photos from the International Compliance Association awards. They most certainly captured the atmosphere and reflect the sense of team that has developed between HSBC and Silent Eight. In these post covid days where 90%+ engagement is virtual, it's fantastic to get the opportunity to meet face to face in a setting like this to celebrate the partnership. Although one of the photos might look like we won our award, sadly it was not the case. As we filtered out at the end of the evening the words "we'll be back next year to win it" stuck with me.
