𝐀𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐒𝐌𝐄𝐬 More than 15 #maritime SMEs attended “An Industry Practitioner’s Perspectives on Digital Transformation”, an engagement session organised by #MPA, held on 17 July 2024 at the MPA Academy. The session raised awareness of digital #transformation and resources available for maritime SMEs, and covered topics ranging from global and regional maritime-related trends, impetus for #digitalisation and change management to better prepare and position for digital transformation. It was also a great opportunity for business leaders to network with peers from the industry. Helmed by Mr Punit Oza, FICS, AFNI, LLB, M.Sc., Senior Adjunct Fellow at the MPA Academy, and tapping on his previous experiences on digital transformation, attendees gained valuable insights and guidance on approaching digital transformation from a practical and systematic perspective. 🚢⚡ As part of the push for all harbour craft and pleasure craft to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 to be in line with Singapore’s national net-zero ambitions, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) will require all new harbour craft to be fully electric, use cleaner biofuels or be compatible with net-zero fuels by 2030. Electrification of the harbour craft fleet is a key strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in our maritime sector, and our SMI-funded maritime research projects are enablers in this transition. From identifying optimal charging infrastructure locations, exploring charging solutions, to developing advanced data-driven simulation models, our research partners from the Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC), Nanyang Technological University Singapore, Energy Research Institute @ NTU and TCOMS - Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine, Singapore are paving the way for a sustainable future. #MPA's Data Analyst Sheila Teo and team have introduced DocuMind and DocuMatch through the #AITrailblazers initiative. These innovative Document AI solutions are transforming processes for over 12,000 statutory certificate renewals that MPA handles annually. Utilizing multi-modal Large Language Models (LLMs), DocuMind and DocuMatch efficiently extract and verify data from ship insurance documents, significantly reducing processing time. Certificate renewal turnaround has been reduced from 3 days to just 3 minutes, saving 270 man-days per year! Sheila and her team aim to extend the application across MPA for broader-scale processes, potentially benefiting colleagues and other Whole-of-Government (WOG) agencies facing similar document processing challenges!
