🌡️🔥 Climate change is pushing temperatures to dangerous levels, threatening human survival as heat waves grip the Northern Hemisphere. “We have absolute limits on how we can cool our bodies. Sweating is the only option outdoors, and it doesn't work at high temperatures and humidity. This summer, billions of people in places like India, West Africa, Central Europe and even North America will experience this upper limit imposed by climate change with tragic consequences for life, health and productivity,” says M. Sanjayan, CEO of Conservation International. As we endure this heat, it's crucial to remember our best climate ally: forests. Let's protect and restore them. #ClimateCrisis #HeatWave #ClimateChange #ForestProtection

We work to protect the critical benefits that nature provides to people through innovations in nature-based solutions.
About us
People need nature – and for over 30 years, Conservation International has worked to protect it. Through cutting-edge science, innovative policy, and global reach, we empower people to protect the nature that we all rely on for food, fresh water, and livelihoods. In the Asia-Pacific, Conservation International has been implementing conservation programs for over 20 years. We are driving innovation and investments in nature-based solutions to the climate crisis, supporting protections for critical habitats, and fostering economic development that is grounded in the conservation of nature. We work with governments, corporations, and local communities, empowering societies at all levels to create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable planet. In this region Conservation International Asia-Pacific has worked to protect more than 80,000 km2 on land and 3.5 million km2 at sea whilst supporting over one million local community members and investing over US$60 million into protected area trust funds. The work has led to the discovery of over 1000 new vertebrate species.

Edgardo Ochoa is leading a movement to clean our oceans from deadly "ghost gear." 🌊🛠️ By training recreational divers to remove abandoned fishing nets and lines safely, he's creating an army of ocean protectors. With over 100 certified divers across the globe and partnerships with brands like H&M, the impact is growing. Imagine the change if just a fraction of the 6 million divers worldwide joined in! #OceanConservation #GhostGear #MarineProtection #Diving

Conservation International's Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) Technical Assistance Facility (TAF) targets the urgent need for early-stage funding to protect and restore carbon-rich ecosystems across Asia-Pacific. Despite nature's potential to provide 30% of climate mitigation, it receives just 3% of climate finance. The NCS TAF bridges this gap, ensuring high-impact projects get the support they need from the start. Join us in accelerating nature-based solutions! 🌏🌱 #ClimateAction #NaturalClimateSolutions #NCS #TechnicalAssistanceFacility #TAF

The International Blue Carbon Institute (IBCI) recently hosted a workshop to drive thought leadership and global momentum at the intersection of #gender and #conservation. Held over three days in Singapore, the workshop convened gender experts from Conservation International, partner NGOs, the private sector, and academia. Together, they collectively developed a research agenda to better understand the interaction between gender equality and conservation practices. Discussions focused on key research questions and topics where efforts are needed to establish best practices and develop tools for integrating gender into conservation initiatives within blue carbon ecosystems. The goal is to identify knowledge gaps and leverage social science research to make gender equality a central component of blue carbon project development. The participants are now moving forward with developing a publication, and the results will be shared in a few months. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed over the 3 days! #internationalbluecarboninstitute #ibci #bluecarbon #gender #DEI

🏄♂️🌊 This International Surfing Day, meet this scientist with a passion for surfing: Conservation International Senior Director of Surf Conservation Scott Atkinson. Around the globe, there are thousands of places where incredible surf breaks coincide with precious ecosystems like coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves, and coastal forests. These areas are invaluable and must be safeguarded. That's why Conservation International has joined forces with partners across the world to protect thousands of waves and surrounding ecosystems, through the creation of Surf Protected Areas. Together, we support local communities to create Surf Protected Areas, which protect irreplaceable coastlines with amazing waves, high biodiversity and high carbon ecosystems through legally enforceable regulations. Through these efforts, we also champion sustainable community development, increase benefits for local communities, support youth, and promote gender and social equity. #InternationalSurfingDay

🌿 Highlights from the Inaugural Carbon Markets Capacity Building Workshop 🌍 Jeff Silverman from Conservation International spoke at the first capacity-building workshop on carbon markets hosted by the Singapore Sustainable Finance Association (SSFA). Jeff illuminated the pivotal role of natural climate solutions (NCS) in combating climate change through ecosystem conservation and restoration. He also presented on the REDD+ projects supported by Conservation International in Cambodia's Central Cardamom Mountains Landscape. REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) initiatives focus on reducing deforestation, preserving biodiversity, and supporting local communities. The Central Cardamom Mountains Landscape project exemplifies how sustainable financing and long-term commitment are vital for successful conservation. SSFA hosted our inaugural capacity building workshop on Carbon Markets, titled "Unpacking the Carbon Value Chain: Stakeholder Insights & Applied Case Studies" yesterday 🌱 The workshop provided an enriching platform for participants to: ✅ Gain a thorough understanding of the lifecycle of carbon credit projects, from inception and funding to trading and utilisation by off-takers. ✅ Learn about the design and implementation of carbon reduction projects, including the latest financing models and investment strategies. ✅ Explore practical case studies & expert insights to understand the real-world challenges and successes in the carbon credit ecosystem. ✅ Network and connect with industry experts and peers to share experiences and strategies. Key takeaways in 3Cs: 1️⃣ Criticality - The carbon market is an important tool to help the world get to net zero. 2️⃣ Complexity - The carbon value chain is a complex one involving many different actors, with different priorities. To achieve alignment and get projects off the ground takes time. 3️⃣ Change - The carbon market is still evolving. Growth and new developments are to be expected. More ecosystem players are also welcomed by the industry to further scale up the market. We are proud to have created a space for meaningful dialogue and learning. Thank you to all our speakers and participants who made this event a success! Stay tuned for more events and initiatives from SSFA. Speakers: 1. Introduction to Carbon Markets by Roxanne Tan (South Pole) 2. Perspective of a Project Developer by Jeff Silverman (Conservation International Asia-Pacific) 3. Perspective of a Financial Institution by Lucy Palairet (Standard Chartered) 4. Perspective of a Carbon Project Investor by Ashley Chan (GenZero) 5. Perspective of a Carbon Data Provider & Ratings Agency by Louis Booth (Sylvera) 6. Perspective of an Intermediary by Ellery Sutanto (Climate Impact X) 7. Perspective of a Carbon Credit Buyer by Genevieve Ding (Amazon) #ssfa #singapore #sustainablefinance #sustainability #capacitybuilding #workshop #carbonmarkets #unpackingcarbon

The latest IUCN assessment reveals a worrying rise in threatened marine species, particularly sharks, rays, and chimaeras. Key drivers include overfishing, habitat loss, climate change, and pollution. But there's a beacon of hope! 🌟 The Important Shark and Ray Area (ISRA) initiative pinpoints critical habitats that need protection. Notably, Indonesia is leading the way, with scientists from our partner Konservasi Indonesia supporting it. Implementing marine protected areas is crucial for the health of our oceans and the well-being of communities that depend on them. Together, we can ensure a thriving future for both people and nature. #oceanconservation #marineprotectedareas
