OceanX is a bold new mission combining science, tech, and media to explore our oceans and bring them back to the world.

About us

OceanX is a mission to explore the unseen ocean, map uncharted areas of the world, observe rare deep-sea creatures, pursue scientific and medical breakthroughs, and then bring all of these wonders back to the wider world through cutting-edge media. Check out #OceanXplorers, an epic six-part underwater adventure series releasing Aug 18 on National Geographic, Disney+ and Hulu. This mission will take place aboard the most advanced science and media vessel ever built, OceanXplorer, building on the legacy of OceanX’s current marine research vessel, OceanXplorer. OceanXplorer features state-of-the-art onboard dry and wet marine research labs, cutting-edge media equipment and a top-of-the-line production and media center, manned and autonomous deep-sea submersibles and helicopters and drones. OceanXplorer's filmmaking capabilities have been developed in consultation with filmmaker and ocean explorer James Cameron, and the ship has been designed by Hollywood’s leading studio production engineers. Join us as we build a global community deeply engaged with understanding, enjoying, and protecting our oceans. Facebook.com/oceanxorg Instagram.com/oceanx Twitter.com/oceanx TikTok.com/oceanx

We’re kicking off our journey toward Bitung with a group of curious Indonesian students in our Young Explorer’s Program (YEP). This week will be filled with plenty of activities to learn more about oceanography and their temporary home aboard the OceanXplorer. We are excited to mentor and learn from the next generation of ocean explorers during our mission here in Indonesia. Expedition organized in partnership with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) of Indonesia and the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment (CMMAI).

We’re wrapping up our last week in Bali. After spending some time on land, it’s important to refresh but also review the important safety measures we need to exercise at sea. We continue to be inspired by the wonders we’ve experienced so far in Indonesia and we’re ready for our next adventure aboard the OceanXplorer. Expedition organized in partnership with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) of Indonesia, and the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment (CMMAI). #oceanxeducation

Science and media play a big part in shaping and inspiring the next generation of ocean leaders across the globe. This July, we are proud to have welcomed 14 students from Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, and USA on board the OceanXplorer as part of the fifth iteration of the Young Explorers Program. While in transit from Jakarta to Bali, students got to take courses on oceanography, eDNA, career mapping, and storytelling; shadow and hear from crew members; and do a livestream for the very first time in YEP history. #OceanXEducation #YoungExplorersProgram

Our mission in Indonesia continues in Bali. We’ve had the pleasure of giving education tours throughout this week and having the time to refuel our bodies and our ship. We facilitated 25 tours totaling over 450 guests. We enjoy learning from our friends in Indonesia just as much as they enjoy learning about ocean exploration onboard the OceanXplorer. Expedition organized in partnership with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) of Indonesia, and the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment (CMMAI).

This July in Jakarta, we welcomed 176 enthusiastic students and educators on board the OceanXplorer to learn about the cutting-edge technologies we use to explore the world's largest habitat — the ocean. In a country where the ocean is such an integral part of life, OceanX Education was thrilled to present Indonesian educators with a prototype lesson booklet "Exploring The Ocean" for primary schoolers, available in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
