✍️ Intern Diaries #13: Working with famous people It’s easy to think that the famous people we see on TV/social media aren’t just people. I’m aware of how silly that sounds. Of course they’re people. They just work in a field that puts them in the center of attention! Still, subconsciously, I think I’ve been putting them on a high pedestal. I’ve been a tad awkward when working with these people – which is unsurprisingly common, given the nature of Bloomr.SG. I was a common intern. Unworthy of their time and attention. I would not speak unless spoken to. I shall stand in the corner, away from plain sight, and do my work. Silently. Like a shadow. Not creepy at all. I was unable to do that for my most recent celebrity encounter. I was going to be featured in a video WITH said celebrity. We talked quite a bit. We both studied business in university. He said I could act an awkward person well. It might’ve been just standard pleasantries, but it was pleasant nonetheless! He might not remember the encounter once I’ve finished my stint. To me though, it was firsthand experience on how we’re not so different – they're just often significantly more good-looking. Takeaway: The people behind the screen are people. Mind blowing. We should be a bit nicer to them in our thoughts. #intern #celebrity #fame

📣 #TikTok released their latest Report - and as chronically online social media marketers, we had to give it a read. Here are the insights we found interesting: 1. Inspire Curiousity 🤔 Share what's truly unique about your brand! Your quirks, cultural origins, and the like - and make points of connections with your audience. Make them curious, then drive action. 2. Let your community thrive 💬 Stitch. Duet. Use video replies. Be lighthearted and collaborate with the everyday individual - not just famous creators. 3. Build Trust 🤲 Using TikTok slang - ""based"", ""let them cook"", ""rizz"" etc - can go a long way, but do so authentically. Be honest about your unfamiliarity with the lingo. Address audience feedback via video replies and show how exactly you demonstrate your values. Here's your reminder to stay grounded on TikTok! Don't oversell, and don't be afraid to be a little silly. #socialmedia #marketing #branding

✍️Intern Diaries #12: The People Pleasing Disease The people-pleaser within me wants to be helpful all the time. If anyone needs help, I’d hardly say no – even if I’m particularly busy. What can I say? I like to feel useful! This tendency has caused a few inconveniences, though. There had been a couple of times when I was asked to do something I frankly had no idea how to. I’ve survived through watching YouTube tutorials and a few lucky google searches, but honestly – the requestor would’ve probably done it faster themselves! I have two theories: 1. This aversion to ‘no-ing’ came from my days in the army. Back then, rejecting a task meant tempting punishment. Honest mistakes could still get you in a lot of trouble. A survival mechanism I developed: being as helpful and obedient as possible. Appealing to whatever humanity they had, I’d make my superiors like me so that they would hesitate to punish me. 2. This is an innate flaw only the most powerful of therapists can fix. Now that I’m not a full-time army dude, I think I can afford to be more honest with my workload. My bosses can’t physically punish me anymore. I can afford a blunder or two before they decide to ignore the law. Takeaway: Saying ‘no’ sometimes isn’t just a human right – it might help things run a bit more efficiently. Just do it reasonably. #intern #mistake #efficiency

We're always on the grind to enhance our reach and engagement, so when we saw the CEO of Instagram, Adam Mosseri at The Colin and Samir Show, we had to bring out the notebook. Here are the deets 👀: 1. Shares per impression – how many people watched a reel and shared it – is the most important metric to pay attention to! 💬 In his words, these are posts that “drive the most value for the community.” Have your content spark conversations through dumb jokes, controversial topics, or otherwise. Spur your viewers to DM it to their circle of friends who would spread it further. The algorithm would reward you accordingly. 2. Your feed prioritizes content from your follows/mutual follows. 👫 For such content, likes and comments – “things friends would do” – is valued. For content from ‘unconnected’ creators, comments don’t matter as much. 3. ~50% of users watch their feed without sound. 🔇 A visual hook is as important as ever. Make your captions visible in your feed, not just the full screen view. It’s a tough world out there! Stay strong, stay active! 💪 #socialmedia #Instagram #marketing #contentcreation

✍️ Intern Diaries #11: Should interns suffer? The position of an intern is often associated with some level of suffering. Interns are overworked. Left to fend for themselves. Constant overtime. Trapped in a vicious cycle of stress, mistake-making, and stress again. I braced myself for such experiences. While this job wasn’t stress-free, I didn’t suffer. I’d even say it was enjoyable. When I hear horror stories from peers and friends, part of me questions whether I SHOULD be suffering. Wouldn’t it build character? Wouldn’t it prepare me for full-time positions after graduation? Would enjoying my time now mean that I’d fall behind everyone else who suffered? Take my musings with a grain of salt (I’m only 23), but I find it strange that suffering is so romanticised. Why should a job make you miserable? Why are we preparing ourselves for the harsher ‘real world’, rather than making the ‘real world’ less harsh? Even despite these beliefs of mine, a part of me still feels guilty for enjoying my time. A part of me believes in the notion I’m trying to dismiss. Maybe it’s because it’s a reality we can’t easily change. Life after graduation would be harsher. Maybe I’d struggle more than my peers when it comes to it. At the very least though, I don’t think we should feel sorry for enjoying our time. Takeaway: Just the ramblings of a young adult. Perhaps the older, wiser you can provide a takeaway this time! #Intern #hardships #corporatelife

✍️ Intern Diaries Entry #10” At the exact half point of my internship, I committed a blunder which, compared to the mistakes I’ve made so far, was probably the most noticeable. I accidentally deleted one of our Instagram videos. Thankfully, it was a video that I made myself – I would’ve felt many times worse if it wasn’t! It wasn’t anything viral or life-changing, so my colleagues were pretty chill about it. Still felt bad about it – so I started planning my redemption arc. Sun Tzu said that “victory comes from finding opportunities in problems”; and boy am I a big problem. So, the intern made a mistake. That’s sort of relatable for people with fresh intern trauma and the people who must deal with them. Why not add some interactivity with it – push out an Instagram poll; explain the situation and have the audience bestow judgment. It’ll be a natural way to explain why a video suddenly disappeared, plus I can capitalize on my easy-to-bully aura for some sweet engagement! The poll did pretty good all things considered! I don’t know if our social media impact would’ve been better with or without the initial mistake, but I think I adapted pretty well in that situation. Semi-bravo, me. Takeaway: Sun Tzu's literature isn't just useful in war - it's also applicable for dumb intern mistakes! #intern #mistake #marketing

What’s new with #socialmedia? Here’s what you can look forward to: 1. #Instagram adds music for carousel posts with video. 🎵 Previously, users could not add music to carousels with video components. Now you can. Something fun to experiment with! Post multiple videos that relate to one trending sound. Give your audience a video jump-scare amongst some still photos. Go wild. 2. #TikTok launches new Image Sharing App experiment, Whee. 📷 Designed to be “the best place for close friends to share life moments”, Whee seeks to be a platform where you can share your most authentic moments as your most authentic self. A new platform for spontaneous posts! Potentially a great place for relatable, day-to-day content that can humanize your brand, but might not be suited for other platforms. #trending #marketing
